INTRODUCTION: The God Who Cannot Be Surprised
Over the past two days, Pastor Adeboye has established that God is unlimited in the face of opposition (Part 1) and unlimited in the face of impossible circumstances (Part 2). Today, in Part 3, he addresses a dimension of God’s unlimited nature that speaks directly to the anxiety of our times: God is unlimited in situations that seem out of control.
The memorised scripture from Daniel 4:35 is the testimony of Nebuchadnezzar—a pagan king who learned the hard way that God is sovereign over all. After seven years of living like a wild animal because of his pride, he finally acknowledged that all inhabitants of the earth are as nothing before God, that God does according to His will, and that no one can stay His hand or question His actions.
This is the God we serve. He is never wringing His hands in heaven, wondering what to do next. No situation catches Him by surprise. No crisis confuses Him. No complexity overwhelms Him.
PART ONE: The Testimony of the Abandoned Wife
Pastor Adeboye shares a powerful, practical testimony that illustrates God’s ability to intervene in seemingly hopeless domestic situations.
The Situation:
A woman came to him in distress. Her husband had abandoned her and their four children to live with another woman who had five children from different men. She had fought to keep her husband but lost. She came to God as a last resort.
The Response:
Pastor Adeboye told her the issue was simple—not because the situation was simple, but because she had decided to allow God to help her. He prayed with her and gave her a specific prophecy: her husband would return home to apologise to her.
The Outcome:
Within days, conflict erupted between the husband and the strange woman. She confronted him with logic that should have been obvious all along: “Don’t you know you are out of your senses? How will you leave your wife and your four children to come and stay with a woman who has five children, none of which are yours?” The man’s response is striking: “That is true, you know.” He acknowledged his madness, packed his belongings, returned home, and pleaded with his wife to take him back.
The Lesson:
What the woman could not achieve by fighting, God achieved by intervening. What seemed completely out of control—a broken marriage, a wayward husband, a desperate situation—God rearranged in her favour. Pastor Adeboye applies this truth prophetically: “I decree that all your defeats shall be turned to victory, in Jesus’ name. Wherever things have gone out of control in your life, the Unlimited God will step in and rearrange them in your favour.”
PART TWO: The Sovereignty of God Over Nations
The devotion then expands from personal situations to national affairs. Pastor Adeboye references elections in Nigeria, a context familiar to his readers, where political uncertainty often breeds anxiety and fear.
He asks a penetrating question: “Do you think God is scratching His head and asking Himself, ‘What is the best action to take now?'”
The implied answer is a resounding NO. God does not panic. God does not strategise reactively. God does not wonder what will happen next. He is the Sovereign Lord who:
- Changes times and seasons (Daniel 2:21)
- Removes kings and sets up kings (Daniel 2:21)
- Gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning (Daniel 2:21)
- Reveals deep and secret things (Daniel 2:22)
- Knows what is in the darkness (Daniel 2:22)
- Dwells in light (Daniel 2:22)
Isaiah 66:1 establishes the hierarchy: heaven is God’s throne, and the earth is His footstool. Everyone and everything on earth is under His feet. No president, no prime minister, no dictator, no election, no conspiracy operates outside His sovereignty.
PART THREE: The Call to Peace
The conclusion of the message is both theological and practical: “Beloved, do not ever be anxious about situations that seem to be out of control. Place them in the hands of the Unlimited God; he will bring everything under control and give you peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:6-7).”
This echoes the words of Jesus: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27). The peace of God is not the absence of trouble but the presence of trust. It is the confidence that comes from knowing who holds the future.
PART FOUR: Theological Reflections
1. God’s Sovereignty Does Not Negate Human Responsibility
The woman in the story had fought to keep her husband. She had done what she could. But when her efforts failed, she turned to God. There is a balance here: we are called to act responsibly, but we are also called to release what we cannot control. Faith is not passive resignation but active trust.
2. God’s Timing Is Often Unexpected
The husband returned “a few days later.” Not years. Not months. Days. When God decides to move, He can move quickly. The same situation that had been intractable for months or years suddenly shifted in moments.
3. God Uses Unlikely Instruments
The strange woman herself became the instrument of the husband’s awakening. God can use anyone—even those who seem to be part of the problem—to accomplish His purposes. He can make the enemy’s camp work for your deliverance.
4. God’s Sovereignty Extends to the Mind
The man acknowledged that he was “out of his senses.” This suggests that his behaviour was not entirely rational; he was under some form of deception or delusion. God can restore soundness of mind. He can break the power of irrational attachment and bring people back to their right minds.
5. God’s Peace Is Available Now
The promise of Philippians 4:6-7 is not just for the future when the situation resolves. It is for the present, while the situation is still unfolding. The peace that passes understanding can guard our hearts and minds even in the midst of uncertainty.
PART FIVE: Practical Applications
1. Identify the Areas That Feel Out of Control
What situations in your life seem beyond hope? What relationships appear irreparable? What circumstances seem too complicated for God to unravel? Name them. Acknowledge them. Bring them before the Lord.
2. Release Them Into God’s Hands
The prayer point says: “Father, I place every aspect of my life in Your unlimited hands. Please take control.” This is not a one-time prayer but a daily posture. Every morning, consciously release your anxieties into His care.
3. Resist Anxiety
Anxiety is a temptation to believe that God is not in control. When anxious thoughts arise, counter them with the truth of God’s sovereignty. Remind yourself of Daniel 4:35: “None can stay His hand, or say unto Him, What doest thou?”
4. Wait for God’s Timing
The woman did not see immediate results. She had to wait a few days. But she waited with faith, not fear. Waiting on God is not passive; it is active expectation.
5. Give God the Glory
When the breakthrough comes, do not forget to give thanks. The woman’s testimony became a tool to encourage others. Your testimony will also become someone else’s hope.
PART SIX: Declarations Based on This Message
- I DECLARE that no situation in my life is out of God’s control.
- I DECLARE that the Unlimited God is stepping into every chaotic situation and rearranging it for my good.
- I DECLARE that every defeat in my life is turning to victory.
- I DECLARE that God is not scratching His head over my circumstances; He has a plan and He is executing it.
- I DECLARE that I will not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, I will make my requests known to God.
- I DECLARE that the peace of God, which passes all understanding, guards my heart and mind through Christ Jesus.
- I DECLARE that God changes times and seasons, removes kings and sets up kings, and He is working in my situation.
- I DECLARE that God reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him.
- I DECLARE that because heaven is God’s throne and earth is His footstool, everything on earth is under His feet—including my circumstances.
- I DECLARE that I place every aspect of my life in God’s unlimited hands, and He takes full control.
PART SEVEN: Prayer
Father, I come before You today with every situation in my life that feels out of control. I bring my relationships, my finances, my health, my career, my family, and my future. I place them all in Your unlimited hands.
Lord, You are the God who changes times and seasons. You remove kings and set up kings. You give wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. You reveal deep and secret things. You know what is in the darkness, and light dwells with You.
Nothing catches You by surprise. No situation is too complicated for You to unravel. You are not scratching Your head, wondering what to do next. You have a plan, and You are executing it.
I receive Your peace today—the peace that passes all understanding. I refuse to be anxious. I refuse to be afraid. I trust You completely.
Turn every defeat in my life into victory. Rearrange every chaotic situation in my favour. Let Your will be done in my life as it is in heaven.
In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
CONCLUSION: My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less
The hymn accompanying this devotion is profoundly appropriate:
“My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.”
When situations seem out of control, our hope is not in our ability to fix them. It is not in the wisdom of counsellors or the strength of armies or the certainty of elections. Our hope is built on Christ—the solid Rock.
“On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand.”
The Unlimited God is not limited by opposition, not limited by impossibility, and not limited by chaos. He is sovereign. He is in control. He is working all things together for good.
