TOPIC: SHE FAILED SEVEN TIMES; BUT SHE HAD FIRST CLASS -3
It was Joe Paterno who said, “What counts in sports is not the victory, but the magnificence of the struggle.” The words: “struggle,” “tears,” “pain,” “disappointments” or “delays” are repeated often times in the dictionaries of champions. Hear the story of the FIRST CLASS orphan lady again and as you hold on, the last chapters of your life’s book will be written in gold. From the first week of her admission into the university, she made up her mind to graduate with a first class. And she did! Born on December 21,1980, Miss Mann, who had her primary school education at Command School, Mile Two, Lagos, Nigeria between 1983 and 1989, worked as a babysitter, housemaid, cleaner, house teacher, and a photographer to make ends meet. Oh, that was DETERMINATION! Indeed, what counts in life is not the victory, but the magnificence of the struggle! During the graduation ceremony, she told the audience that she was an orphan, who had sat for JAMB examinations eight times (failed 7 times) before she gained admission into the university. This disclosure moved a lot of parents, particularly women at the venue, to tears. According to her, life became unbearable for her and her seven siblings after they lost their father, Captain Edward Mann, on July 14,1983, in a road accident; their mother, Mrs. Ramotu Mann (nee Kosoko),on December 3,1989 and her grandmother in 2003.She said, “I didn’t quite know my father. I was told that he had died in a road accident when he was 39. I was the last child in a family of eight. My mother died when I was in Primary 3. I remember that she was sick; she took an injection which led to abscess, and subsequently to her death in the process. We were devastated but the worst happened later when my grandmother died.”Wow! Indeed, “every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit” (Napoleon Hill). Today’s 2nd scripture vs. 2 says, “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” As the Finisher, He knows your end and He has a plan that will make sure that you do not end up in shame! Hold on and hold out!
