The Great Reconciliation

KEY VERSE
“And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled.” – Colossians 1:21
TEXT: Colossians 1:19-23 (KJV)
19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled.
22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister.
DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY
The human condition, apart from Christ, is one of alienation and enmity. We were alienated from God – separated, distant, cut off. We were enemies in our minds – hostile to God, resistant to His will, opposed to His ways. This alienation was not merely external; it was internal. Our minds were at war with our Creator.
But God did not leave us in this desperate state. He took the initiative. He made peace through the blood of the cross. He reconciled us to Himself. The word “reconcile” means to change from enmity to friendship, from hostility to harmony, from alienation to intimacy.
This reconciliation was not cheap. It required the blood of the cross. It required the death of the Son of God. Sin had created a chasm that nothing else could bridge. But the cross spanned the divide. The blood of Jesus satisfied the demands of justice and opened the way for relationship.
Paul writes that it pleased the Father that in Christ “all fulness should dwell.” Christ is not partially full; He is fully full. All the fullness of God dwells in Him. All the resources of heaven are in Him. All the power, all the wisdom, all the grace – everything we need is found in Christ.
The purpose of this reconciliation is staggering: “to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight.” This is not how God sees us after we have cleaned ourselves up. This is how He sees us because of what Christ has done. We are presented holy – set apart for God. Unblameable – without fault. Unreproveable – beyond accusation.
This is our position in Christ. It is not based on our performance but on His perfection. It is not earned by our efforts but received by faith.
Yet there is a condition: “If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel.” This is not a works-based salvation but a warning against apostasy. Genuine faith persists. It remains grounded. It stays settled. It is not moved away from the hope of the gospel.
The reconciliation is complete, but the response is required. We must continue in faith. We must remain grounded in the truth. We must not be moved away from the hope that is ours in Christ.

COMMENTARY
Introduction: From Enmity to Friendship
The human condition is desperate. We were alienated from God – not because He rejected us, but because we rebelled against Him. Our minds were hostile to God. We were enemies in our thinking, resistant to His will, opposed to His ways.
But God did not wait for us to change. He took the initiative. He made peace. He reconciled us. The word “reconcile” means to exchange enmity for friendship, hostility for harmony, alienation for intimacy.
The Cost of Reconciliation
Reconciliation was not free. It cost the blood of the cross. Sin had created a chasm that could not be bridged by human effort. No amount of good works, religious rituals, or moral improvement could span the divide. Only the blood of Jesus could satisfy the demands of justice.
The cross was not an afterthought; it was the plan from eternity. God knew what it would take to bring us back. And He was willing to pay the price.
The Fulness of Christ
“It pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell.” Christ is not partially full; He is completely full. All the fullness of God dwells in Him. This means that everything we need – forgiveness, acceptance, purpose, power – is found in Christ.
We do not need to look elsewhere. We do not need to supplement Christ with other sources. He is sufficient. He is complete. He is everything.
Our Position in Christ
The purpose of reconciliation is “to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight.” This is not a future hope; it is a present reality. In Christ, we are already holy. In Christ, we are already blameless. In Christ, we are already beyond accusation.
This does not mean we are sinless, but it does mean our sin is not counted against us. The accusation of the enemy has no standing. The guilt of the past has been removed. We stand before God in the righteousness of Christ.
The Call to Continue
There is a condition: “If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled.” This is not a warning that we can lose our salvation, but a reminder that genuine faith persists. Those who are truly reconciled will continue in faith. They will remain grounded. They will not be moved away from the hope of the gospel.
Perseverance is not the means of salvation; it is the evidence of salvation. Those who are truly saved will keep believing. Those who truly belong to Christ will continue in Him.
DECLARATIONS BASED ON THE DEVOTIONAL
I DECLARE that I am not alienated from God; I am reconciled by the blood of Christ!
I DECLARE that I am no longer an enemy in my mind; I am a friend of God!
I DECLARE that all fulness dwells in Christ, and I am complete in Him!
I DECLARE that I am presented holy, unblameable, and unreproveable in God’s sight!
I DECLARE that no accusation can stand against me because Christ has reconciled me!
I DECLARE that I continue in the faith, grounded and settled, not moved away from the hope of the gospel!
I DECLARE that my reconciliation is not based on my performance but on Christ’s perfection!
I DECLARE that the blood of Jesus has made peace between God and me!
I DECLARE that I am not fighting for God’s acceptance; I already have it through Christ!
I DECLARE that I am holy, blameless, and beyond accusation because of Jesus!
PRAYER FOR THE DAY
Father, I thank You that You did not leave me in my alienation. You made peace through the blood of the cross and reconciled me to Yourself.
I was once alienated and an enemy in my mind by wicked works, but now I am reconciled. I am no longer distant; I am near. I am no longer hostile; I am at peace.
Thank You that all fulness dwells in Christ, and I am complete in Him. Thank You that I am presented holy, unblameable, and unreproveable in Your sight.
Help me to continue in the faith, grounded and settled, not moved away from the hope of the gospel. Let my life be evidence of Your reconciling work.
