ISAIAH 60:1–12 (KJV)

1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.

2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

4 Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side.

5 Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.

6 The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the LORD.

7 All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will glorify the house of my glory.

8 Who are these that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows?

9 Surely the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the LORD thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because he hath glorified thee.

10 And the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister unto thee: for in my wrath I smote thee, but in my favour have I had mercy on thee.

11 Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought.

12 For the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted.

DEVOTIONAL REFLECTION

Isaiah 60 is a prophetic call to arise and shine because the glory of the Lord has risen upon God’s people. The chapter contrasts the darkness covering the earth with the light that belongs to believers. This is not a light we generate ourselves—it is the glory of the Lord that rises upon us.

Notice the progression: First, the Lord arises upon His people (verse 1). Then, His glory is seen upon them (verse 2). Then, the nations (Gentiles) are drawn to that light (verse 3). Finally, abundance, wealth, and restoration flow into the lives of God’s people (verses 5–11).

Key promises in this passage:

• Darkness may cover the earth, but it does not cover you (verse 2).

• Kings and nations will be drawn to your light (verse 3).

• Your scattered children will return from far away (verse 4).

• The wealth of the nations will come to you (verse 5, 9).

• Strangers will rebuild your walls (verse 10).

• Your gates will remain open continually to receive provision (verse 11).

This passage is both a promise and a command. The command is: “Arise, shine.” We cannot remain passive or seated in darkness. We must rise, move, and let God’s glory be seen through us.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, I thank You because my light has come. Your glory has risen upon me. I arise and shine today in Jesus’ name. (Isaiah 60:1)

2. Lord, though darkness covers the earth and gross darkness the people, I declare that darkness shall not cover me. The Lord arises upon me. (Isaiah 60:2)

3. Father, let Your glory be seen upon my life, my family, my work, and my ministry. Let men see Your reflection in me. (Isaiah 60:2)

4. Lord, draw the Gentiles—the unsaved, the distant, the influential—to the light of Christ shining through me. Let kings come to the brightness of my rising. (Isaiah 60:3)

5. Father, open my eyes. Help me to lift up my eyes round about and see the harvest, the people, and the opportunities You have prepared for me. (Isaiah 60:4)

6. Lord, gather my scattered children, family members, and spiritual offspring. Let them come from far and be nursed at my side. (Isaiah 60:4)

7. Father, let my heart fear and be enlarged. Expand my capacity to receive the abundance You are bringing my way. (Isaiah 60:5)

8. Lord, let the abundance of the sea be converted unto me. Let the wealth of the nations, the forces of the Gentiles, come into my hands for Your kingdom. (Isaiah 60:5)

9. Father, let every stranger and outsider become a builder of my walls. Let those who once opposed me now minister unto me. (Isaiah 60:10)

10. Lord, let my gates be open continually. Remove every barrier, closed door, and limitation. Let provision flow in day and night. (Isaiah 60:11)

DECLARATIONS

1. I declare: Arise, shine, for my light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon me. I will not sit in darkness.

2. I declare that though darkness covers the earth, darkness shall not cover me. The Lord arises upon me, and His glory is seen upon me.

3. I declare that the Gentiles shall come to my light, and kings to the brightness of my rising. I am a light to the nations.

4. I declare that I lift up my eyes round about. I see my children coming from far. I see my family being gathered.

5. I declare that my heart is enlarged. I have capacity to receive all that God is bringing. I will not be too small for His blessing.

6. I declare that the abundance of the sea and the forces of the Gentiles are coming to me. Wealth is flowing into my hands for kingdom purposes.

7. I declare that gold, incense, and the praises of the Lord shall be brought to me. I will not lack any good thing.

8. I declare that strangers shall build my walls and kings shall minister unto me. God’s favor surrounds me like a shield.

9. I declare that my gates are open continually. No enemy shall shut them. Provision shall flow in day and night.

10. I declare that every nation or kingdom that rises against me shall perish. I am protected by the God of Israel.
