BASIC SCRIPTURE: NUMBERS 13:17-33
BASIC SCRIPTURE: MONDAY, 9TH NOVEMBER 2026 — NUMBERS 13:17-33 (KJV)
-
And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:
-
And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;
-
And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;
-
And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes.
-
So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.
-
And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
-
And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.
-
The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence.
-
And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.
-
And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.
-
And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.
-
Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.
-
The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.
-
And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
-
But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
-
And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
-
And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

PRAYER POINTS — MONDAY, 9TH NOVEMBER 2026
-
Father, give me the faith of Caleb. Let me see the promise and believe that I am well able to possess it.
-
Lord, let me not be like the ten spies who brought an evil report of unbelief. Let me not magnify the giants above You.
-
Father, help me to focus on the fruit of the land and not just on the fortified cities. Let me see Your promise and not just the obstacles.
-
Lord, let me not see myself as a grasshopper. Let me see myself as You see me — more than a conqueror.
-
Father, give me a good report. Let my words be words of faith, not words of fear.
-
Lord, when the enemy appears strong and the cities appear walled, let me remember that You are greater. Let me trust in Your power.
-
Father, let me not be moved by the majority report of unbelief. Let me stand with the minority report of faith.
-
Lord, give me the courage to say, “Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.”

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — MONDAY, 9TH NOVEMBER 2026
Key Verse: Numbers 13:30 — “And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.”
The Spies and the Land (Verses 17-20):
Moses sent twelve spies to search out the land of Canaan. He gave them specific instructions. He told them what to look at. He told them what to assess. He told them what to report. They were to see the land. They were to see the people. They were to see the cities. They were to see the fruit. They were to be of good courage. They were to bring back the fruit of the land. They were to bring back evidence of what God had promised.
The Search (Verses 21-24):
The spies went up. They searched the land. They went through the wilderness of Zin. They went to Rehob. They went to Hamath. They ascended by the south. They came to Hebron. They saw the children of Anak. They came to the brook of Eshcol. They cut down a branch with one cluster of grapes. They carried it between two on a staff. They brought pomegranates and figs. They saw the fruitfulness of the land. They saw the goodness of the land. They saw the provision of God.
The Report (Verses 25-29):
The spies returned after forty days. They came to Moses, Aaron, and the congregation. They brought back the fruit. They showed it to the people. They gave their report. They said, “We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.” They acknowledged the truth. They acknowledged the goodness. They acknowledged the promise. But then they added a “nevertheless.” They said, “Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.” They focused on the obstacles. They focused on the giants. They focused on the walls. They forgot the power of God. They forgot the promise of God. They forgot the faithfulness of God.
Caleb’s Faith (Verse 30):
Caleb stood up. He stilled the people. He silenced the murmurings. He quietened the fear. He said, “Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.” Caleb saw the same things the other spies saw. He saw the giants. He saw the walls. He saw the strong people. But he also saw God. He remembered God’s promise. He remembered God’s power. He remembered God’s faithfulness. He believed they were well able. Not in their own strength. Not in their own ability. Not in their own resources. But in the strength and ability and resources of God. He said, “We are well able to overcome it.” He was not being arrogant. He was not being presumptuous. He was being faithful. He was trusting God.
The Evil Report (Verses 31-33):
But the other spies disagreed. They said, “We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.” They brought up an evil report. They spoke evil of the land. They said it was a land that eats up its inhabitants. They said the people were of great stature. They said they saw giants. They said, “We were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.” They compared themselves to the giants and saw themselves as grasshoppers. They forgot who their God was. They forgot the size of their God. They focused on the size of the giants. They allowed fear to enter their hearts. They spread fear to the congregation. They caused the people to lose hope. They caused the people to rebel. They caused the people to miss their destiny.
The Lesson for Us:
How do you see yourself? Do you see yourself as a grasshopper? Do you see yourself as small and insignificant? Do you see yourself as helpless and powerless? Do you see yourself as defeated before you even start? Then you need to change your perspective. You are not a grasshopper. You are a child of God. You are more than a conqueror. You are well able to overcome every giant. You are well able to possess your promised land. You are well able to fulfil your destiny. Do not focus on the size of your problems. Focus on the size of your God. Do not focus on the strength of your enemies. Focus on the power of your God. Do not focus on the walls of the cities. Focus on the promise of your God. Do not be like the ten spies. Be like Caleb. See the promise. Believe the promise. Possess the promise. Say, “Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.” And you will see the giants fall. You will see the walls crumble. You will see the cities conquered. You will see the promise fulfilled. You will see the land possessed.
Question for the Day — Monday, 9th November 2026:
Are you seeing yourself as a grasshopper or as a conqueror? Are you focusing on the giants or on God? Are you bringing an evil report of unbelief or a good report of faith? Be like Caleb. Say, “We are well able to overcome it.” And you will possess your promised land.
