TOPIC: THE COST OF HATRED! – 2
BASIC SCRIPTURE: 1 SAMUEL 31: 1-13
1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.
2 And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Melchishua, Saul’s sons.
3 And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers.
4 Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
5 And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.
6 So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.
7 And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
8 And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
9 And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people.
10 And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Bethshan.
11 And when the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul;
12 All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Bethshan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.
13 And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

We hate some people because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them! William Shakespeare opined: If you hate me, I’ll always be in your mind. Hatred is like fire. It CONSUMES! Hate is a lack of imagination (Graham Greene). Hatred is the atmosphere of hell Marlin Farquhar Tupper). Hate misleads and fear distorts.

Hatred unlocks no doors in heaven! IT IS A DOOR CLOSER!! Imagine one of the reasons people cling to their hatred so stubbornly is because they sense, once hate is gone, they will be forced to deal with pain. Life appears to be too short to be spent in nursing animosity or registering wrongs.
Hatred is a cold fire, and it gives no warmth. Hate is a bottomless cup; You will pour and pour without an end. Hate always sells well, but what is the cost of HATRED? According to my brother, Gbinle Akanni, first it will take away your inner peace. Then it will cost you incurable worries. It will eat up your heart! You will be deeply bitter whenever you set your eyes on the person you hate or ENVY.
Whenever he or she laughs, you cry! While others are busy planning their future, you are busy looking for how to pull him or her down. Oh! WHAT A COST! Furthermore, the Spirit of God will leave you and you will become the temple of devils where demons reside. IS HATRED WORTH IT?
Listen again: Hatred will make you to begin to have different health issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, cancer, liver disease, kidney disease, etc, Beloved, don’t allow anybody take away your joy and sell or give you hatred. Dear pastor and dear child of God, avoid gossip, bitterness, anger, etc. because a lot of times, it is what you hear about somebody that breeds hatred.

Ah! I refuse to pay such a huge PRICE when I can LOVE so easily and cheaply. No wonder Richard Nixon said: “Others may hate you. But those who hate you don’t win, unless you hate them. And then, you destroy yourself.” Ask king Saul (today’s scripture)! Pray seriously now!
PRAYER POINTS: Take any song of victory as led.

- Repent seriously concerning any seed of hatred in your heart!
- HATE IS A BOTTOMLESS CUP! I shall not be a victim!

THE COST OF MISSING HEAVEN IS TOO HIGH: I refuse to pay that price due to another human being like me. Help me to walk in LOVE to God and man.
