Today’s 2nd scripture verses 17 to19 says, “For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife: for he had married her. For John had said unto Herod, ‘It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.’ Therefore Herodias had a quarrel (an inward grudge) against him, and would have killed him; but she could not!” So it means John the BAPTIST WAS KILLED BECAUSE he commented and corrected an evil. There is a theological school of thought that John could probably not have died if he had kept silent and ignored Herod’s marriage to his brother’s wife! John’s assignment was for Jesus Christ – TO PREPARE HIS WAY AND MAKE EVERY CROOKED PATH STRAIGHT! And he had fulfilled that assignment when Jesus was baptized! Again, do you know that many times, Jesus Christ KEPT SILENT and escaped from unnecessary teachings/arguments (today’s 1st scripture vs. 39). He did not COMMENT on everything He saw or heard!
