It was a great man, Ayn Rand, who once said: “It is not grey hair that makes one respectable but character.” Welcome to today’s devotional! The LORD is speaking about RESPECT today! I see that the word, “RESPECT” AS A LADDER TO GREATER HEIGHTS was discussed in heaven by the TRINITY last night, concerning you! In life, men are respected, even as they respect! See vs. 2 of today’s Word: “Those who have believing masters, let them not despise them because they are brethren.” Paul knew that FAMILIARITY is the KILLER OF RESPECT! In those days, Paul knew that slaves, whose welfare depended on their master’s goodwill, were capable of being disrespectful! But don’t forget that EVERYONE HAS SOMEONE ABOVE THEM IN ONE WAY OR THE OTHER! So, he was telling them – Don’t Disrespect People Because They Are Familiar With You! For example, I have observed that those who are over-familiar with their pastors do not get blessed! Paul gave the main reason believers should excel in respect: “So that the name of God and His doctrine may not be blasphemed” (Vs.1). As we grow as unique persons, we learn to respect the uniqueness of others! No wonder Mark Clement quipped: “When I look at a person, I see a person – not a rank, not a class, not a title.” No matter your rank and class in life, as you go out today or this week, remember that your employees or juniors are not TITLES, but they are persons! Smile at and encourage someone daily! Punish them if you must, but never forget, “It is not grey hair that makes one respectable but character.” Pray now!
