Truly, Americans were in a difficult position in the year 2001 – 21 years after they had disgraced the former Soviet Union from Afghanistan. They asked for Russia’s assistance in tracking down the suspects of the September 11, 2001 bombings of New York and Washington. But recollect that America was in the lead for a worldwide call for the boycott of the 1980 Olympic games that was held in Moscow (The Russian capital). That boycott almost crippled the games. The Russians went into Afghanistan in 1979, in an operation that was to last for a few months. They were stuck in there for 10 years and left, totally disgraced. No thanks to America’s support for the Afghans then. If the Americans knew that 21 years later, they would seek for Russia’s support and help, they would have had a different approach towards politics. Truly in politics, there are no permanent friends or enemies but we need to learn a lot from this. In this year 2025, always think of tomorrow in your dealings with your congregation, your family, your friends, neighbours, or those who seek your help daily. You may need them tomorrow. It was a Jew who betrayed Moses to Pharaoh in Exodus 2: 13 -15. Did the Jews know they would cry for help someday (vs. 23), and it would be the same Moses that God would use to deliver them? Another case of the Russians versus the Americans? Well, be kind to those you meet on your way up. You may need them sooner or later. Ask the Americans! The pressure they and their president then – Mr. W. Bush – went through was more than a ‘Bushfire.’ Never forget: You may need them tomorrow! Think! Todays Devotional ODM 10 May 2025
