BASIC SCRIPTURE: ZECHARIAH 3:1-7 (KJV)

1. And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.

2. And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?

3. Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.

4. And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.

5. And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.

6. And the angel of the LORD protested unto Joshua, saying,

7. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, let Michael the archangel contend for me when the enemy rises against me. Let every accusation of Satan against my life be silenced.

2. Lord, I submit to You. I refuse to bring railing accusations against the enemy, but I say, “The Lord rebuke thee.”

3. Father, I thank You that I am a brand plucked out of the fire. You have rescued me from destruction.

4. Lord, as Joshua stood before You in filthy garments, I confess my sin and uncleanness before You. Cleanse me and remove my iniquity.

5. Father, clothe me with change of raiment. Let me be clothed with righteousness, not with my own filth.

6. Lord, set a fair mitre upon my head. Let there be a crown of holiness and authority upon my life.

7. Father, I receive the charge of the angel: “Walk in my ways, and keep my charge.” Let me walk in obedience and holiness.

8. Lord, let me judge Your house and keep Your courts. Give me places to walk among those who stand before You.

DECLARATIONS

1. I declare that Michael the archangel contends for me. Every accusation of Satan against my life is silenced by the Lord.

2. I do not bring railing accusations against the enemy. I say, “The Lord rebuke thee.”

3. I am a brand plucked out of the fire. God has rescued me from destruction, and I am safe in His hand.

4. My filthy garments are taken away. My iniquity is passed from me. I am cleansed by the blood of Jesus.

5. I am clothed with change of raiment. The righteousness of Christ covers me.

6. A fair mitre is set upon my head. I have a crown of holiness and authority.

7. I walk in God’s ways. I keep His charge. I judge His house and keep His courts.

8. God gives me places to walk among those who stand before Him. I have access to His presence.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION

Key Verse (Jude): Jude 1:9 — “Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.”

Key Verse (Zechariah): Zechariah 3:2 — “And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?”

The Dispute Over the Body of Moses (Jude 1:9):

Jude references a conflict between Michael the archangel and the devil over the body of Moses. This is a mysterious passage, but it reveals a profound truth: even the archangel did not bring a railing accusation against Satan. He did not insult him. He did not try to defeat him with his own words. He simply said, “The Lord rebuke thee.” He delegated judgment to God. He did not rely on his own authority. He relied on the Lord’s.

The Lesson for Believers:

You do not need to fight the devil with your own words. You do not need to argue with him. You do not need to engage in verbal combat. You can simply say, “The Lord rebuke thee.” The enemy is not your equal. He is a defeated foe. You do not need to prove yourself against him. You need to defer to the One who has already defeated him.

Joshua the High Priest (Zechariah 3:1):

Zechariah sees Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord. At his right hand stands Satan, resisting him. This is a courtroom scene. Joshua is on trial. Satan is the accuser. The angel of the Lord is the judge. Joshua is not able to defend himself. He is clothed in filthy garments. He is guilty. He is unclean. He has no defense.

The Brand Plucked Out of the Fire (Zechariah 3:2):

The Lord rebukes Satan. He does not argue with him. He does not present a defense. He simply rebukes him. And then He declares: “Is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?” Joshua was a burning stick, rescued from the flames. He was not righteous by his own merit. He was saved by God’s mercy. He was a brand plucked out of the fire. And that was enough.

The Filthy Garments (Zechariah 3:3):

Joshua’s filthy garments represented his sin and uncleanness. He could not stand before God in his own righteousness. He was not fit to be a priest. But the angel did not cast him out. He commanded the attendants to take away the filthy garments. Then he said to Joshua, “Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.”

The Change of Raiment:

The filthy garments were removed. New garments were given. This is the gospel. God does not just forgive your sin. He removes it. He takes away the filthy garments of your iniquity and clothes you with the righteousness of Christ. You are not just pardoned. You are dressed. You are made fit to stand before Him.

The Fair Mitre (Zechariah 3:5):

A fair mitre — a clean turban — was set upon Joshua’s head. The mitre was part of the high priest’s headdress. It represented holiness, authority, and consecration. Joshua was not only cleansed. He was restored to his office. He was given a new crown. He was reinstated as the high priest.

The Charge (Zechariah 3:6-7):

The angel gave Joshua a charge: “If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by.” Cleansing was not the end. It was the beginning. Joshua was called to obedience. He was called to leadership. He was called to judge God’s house and keep His courts. And he was promised access to God’s presence — places to walk among those who stand before Him.

Question for the Day:

Are you still wearing your filthy garments, or have you received the change of raiment? Are you still being accused by Satan, or have you learned to say, “The Lord rebuke thee”? And will you walk in God’s ways and keep His charge, so that you may have places to walk among those who stand before Him?
