Basic Scriptures: Acts 2:1-21; Acts 4:31; Acts 19:1-7
Hymn of the Day: “When the Morning Comes”

Theme: The Power of the Holy Spirit in Our Lives

Today’s scriptures focus on the transformative power of the Holy Spirit. From the dramatic outpouring at Pentecost (Acts 2:1-21 ) to the boldness it brought to the early church (Acts 4:31 ), and even its restorative work among believers (Acts 19:1-7 ), we see how the Spirit empowers, guides, and unites God’s people for His purposes. As we reflect on these passages and sing the hymn “When the Morning Comes,” let us prepare our hearts to be filled afresh with the Spirit’s presence and power.

Bible Readings

Acts 2:1-21 (NKJV)

1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5 And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.
6 And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language.
7 Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans?
8 And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?”

14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words.
15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.
16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,
That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your young men shall see visions,
Your old men shall dream dreams.

18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days;
And they shall prophesy.
19 I will show wonders in heaven above
And signs in the earth beneath:
Blood and fire and vapor of smoke.
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
And the moon into blood,
Before the coming of the great and notable day of the Lord.
21 And it shall come to pass
That whoever calls on the name of the Lord
Shall be saved.’”

Acts 4:31 (NKJV)

31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

Acts 19:1-7 (NKJV)

1 And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples
2 he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”
3 And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?” So they said, “Into John’s baptism.”
4 Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.”
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
7 Now the men were about twelve in all.

Key Insights from the Scriptures

  1. Pentecost: A New Beginning (Acts 2:1-21 )
    • The Holy Spirit descended dramatically on the disciples, empowering them to proclaim the gospel in multiple languages. This marked the birth of the Church and fulfilled Joel’s prophecy about the Spirit being poured out on all people.
  2. Boldness Through Prayer (Acts 4:31 )
    • After facing persecution, the early church prayed fervently, and God responded by filling them with the Holy Spirit. Their renewed boldness enabled them to share the Word without fear.
  3. Receiving the Fullness of the Spirit (Acts 19:1-7 )
    • These believers initially lacked knowledge of the Holy Spirit but received Him fully when they were baptized in Jesus’ name. This highlights the importance of understanding and receiving the fullness of the Spirit in our spiritual journey.

Prayer Points for Today

  1. Prayer for Fresh Filling of the Holy Spirit:
Father, just as You poured out Your Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, I ask for a fresh infilling of Your Spirit today. Empower me to walk boldly in my faith and minister effectively to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Lord, help Your Church to be united in purpose and spirit, just as the disciples were gathered together in one accord. Break down walls of division and fill us with love and humility toward one another. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
  3. Prayer for Boldness in Witnessing:
Heavenly Father, grant me the same boldness that the early church experienced after praying together. Let my words and actions reflect Your truth, no matter the cost or opposition. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
  4. Prayer for Spiritual Awakening:
Lord, awaken hearts to the reality of the Holy Spirit’s power. Just as You opened the eyes of the believers in Ephesus, reveal Yourself to those who may not yet fully understand Your work in their lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
  5. Prayer for Supernatural Gifts of the Spirit:

Hymn: “When the Morning Comes”

“When the morning comes, and the night is fading fast,
All my fears will vanish like shadows of the past.
Through the darkest hours, I have learned to trust,
For the Son will rise again, and I’ll stand in His love.

When the morning comes, and the sky begins to glow,
Every tear I’ve cried will be wiped away, I know.
In the stillness now, I can hear His gentle call,
Rise and shine, my child, for the morning has come.

When the morning comes, and the battle’s fought and won,
I will sing His praise, for the victory’s begun.
Though the road was long, and the journey hard to bear,
I will see His face, and His glory everywhere.”*
