BASIC SCRIPTURE: GENESIS 47: 1-12

BASIC SCRIPTURE: GENESIS 47:1-12 (KJV)

1. Then Joseph came and told Pharaoh, and said, My father and my brethren, and their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and, behold, they are in the land of Goshen.

2. And he took some of his brethren, even five men, and presented them unto Pharaoh.

3. And Pharaoh said unto his brethren, What is your occupation? And they said unto Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, both we, and also our fathers.

4. They said moreover unto Pharaoh, For to sojourn in the land are we come; for thy servants have no pasture for their flocks; for the famine is sore in the land of Canaan: now therefore, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of Goshen.

5. And Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee:

6. The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.

7. And Joseph brought in Jacob his father, and set him before Pharaoh: and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.

8. And Pharaoh said unto Jacob, How old art thou?

9. And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.

10. And Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from before Pharaoh.

11. And Joseph placed his father and his brethren, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.

12. And Joseph nourished his father, and his brethren, and all his father’s household, with bread, according to their families.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, let me find favour in the sight of those in authority, as Joseph found favour with Pharaoh.

2. Lord, I thank You that You place me in the land of Goshen — the best of the land, the place of provision and protection.

3. Father, let me be a blessing to those in authority, as Jacob blessed Pharaoh. Let my presence bring favour to those around me.

4. Lord, I acknowledge that my life is a pilgrimage. Let me not hold too tightly to this world, but look to my eternal home.

5. Father, let me be a nourisher to my family, as Joseph nourished his father’s household.

6. Lord, even in times of famine, let me have provision for my household. Let me not lack, even when others are in need.

7. Father, place me in the best of the land. Let me be positioned in a place of blessing and influence.

8. Lord, let me be a person of activity — diligent, faithful, and capable — so I may be made a ruler over many things.

DECLARATIONS

1. I declare that I find favour in the sight of those in authority. God gives me favour wherever I go.

2. I am placed in the land of Goshen — the best of the land, the place of provision and protection.

3. I am a blessing to those around me. My presence brings favour and blessing.

4. I acknowledge that my life is a pilgrimage. I do not hold too tightly to this world. My home is in heaven.

5. I am a nourisher to my family. I provide for my household in times of famine.

6. Even in times of famine, I have provision. I do not lack. God supplies all my needs.

7. God positions me in the best of the land. I am in a place of blessing and influence.

8. I am diligent, faithful, and capable. I am made a ruler over many things.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION

Key Verse: Genesis 47:6 — “The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell.”

The Presentation (Verses 1-4):

Joseph brought his family before Pharaoh. He presented five of his brothers to the king. They were honest about their occupation: shepherds. They did not try to hide their identity. They did not try to elevate their status. They were shepherds, and they said so. Pharaoh asked them their occupation. They answered truthfully. And they asked to dwell in Goshen. They did not want to dwell in the cities of Egypt. They wanted to dwell in the land of Goshen — a land suitable for shepherds, apart from the Egyptians.

The Favour (Verses 5-6):

Pharaoh showed favour to Joseph’s family. He said, “The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell.” He gave them the best land. He was generous. He was kind. And he offered an opportunity: if there were any men of activity among them, they could be made rulers over his cattle. Favour opened doors. Favour gave position. Favour provided protection.

The Blessing (Verse 7):

Joseph brought Jacob before Pharaoh. Jacob blessed Pharaoh. Jacob was a shepherd from Canaan. Pharaoh was the king of Egypt. But Jacob blessed Pharaoh. The lesser is blessed by the greater. The greater is blessed by the lesser. Jacob blessed the king. Jacob was a blessing to the nation. His presence brought blessing to Egypt.

The Pilgrimage (Verses 8-9):

Pharaoh asked Jacob how old he was. Jacob said, “The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been.” He called his life a pilgrimage. He was a sojourner. He was not home yet. He was passing through. And he admitted that his years had been few and evil. They had been hard. They had been difficult. They had been full of trouble. But he had persevered. He had endured. He had arrived.

The Provision (Verses 11-12):

Joseph placed his father and brothers in the best of the land, in Rameses. He gave them a possession. He nourished them with bread according to their families. Joseph provided for his family. He did not neglect them. He did not forget them. He sustained them. In the midst of famine, they had bread. In the midst of scarcity, they had abundance. Joseph was a type of Christ, the One who nourishes His household and provides for His people.

Question for the Day:

Are you in the land of Goshen, the place of provision and protection? Are you a blessing to those around you? Do you see your life as a pilgrimage, passing through this world on your way to your eternal home? And are you nourishing your household, providing for those God has placed in your care?
