DCLM Daily Manna – Preparations for The Master

“And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat” (Luke 22:8).

7 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.
8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.
9 And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.
11 And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
12 And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
MESSAGE
One of the most enduring and longest placed dining tables in the world is in the Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad, India. The palace was built by Nawab Viqar-ul-Umra, and it was completed in 1894. The dining table was crafted with the finest materials available at that time. It is 108-foot-long and is designed to seat 101 guests. The table is part of the furniture still used today at the Taj Falaknuma Palace, which has been converted to a luxury hotel. It takes an uncommon table to entertain uncommon guests.
It was Passover time and for Jesus, it would be His last with His disciples. He wanted to celebrate it in an uncommon way. He instructed them to go and prepare a place for the feast, though, unknown to them, He had by divine power, already put arrangements in place. Getting the work done well will take their willingness, faith in His word and implicit obedience to His instructions for them to make a success of their assignment. Jesus sent Peter and John on this special assignment and wonderfully enough, on this occasion, Peter did not ask questions. He went as instructed and found the words of Jesus true to the letter.
There is nothing on earth that can take our Lord by surprise. John says Jesus “needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man” (John 2:25). He knew the houses and spaces available for Him. He knew the locations and available “large rooms” furnished to receive Him. But He did not take chances by keeping the guests wondering when he would come. He sent an advance party to get all things ready.
The Lord Jesus is coming back again and He wants you to be ready for the marriage supper of the Lamb. He has gone to prepare a place for the elect and He wants us to be watchful and prepared for the glorious occasion. Peter and John did not hesitate to carry out His plan to get the table for the feast ready. He has great expectations that you will carry out His instructions. Will you let Him down?

The Christian that fails to prepare for the coming glory will have a sad story.

COMMENTARY
1. The Value of Preparation – The devotional opens with an illustration of an extravagant dining table in India, emphasizing that uncommon guests deserve uncommon preparation. Jesus, the Master, deserved a well-prepared place for His final Passover meal with His disciples. Preparation is not optional; it is essential for honoring Him.
2. Divine Knowledge and Human Obedience – Jesus already knew where the room was and that it was furnished. He did not need to search or inquire. Yet He still sent Peter and John to prepare. This demonstrates that while God has already made provision, He expects human cooperation. Obedience to His instructions is the channel through which His plans are fulfilled.
3. Trusting and Obeying Without Hesitation – Peter and John did not question Jesus or doubt His word. They simply went and found everything exactly as He had said. This is a model of implicit faith and obedience. We are called to trust God’s instructions, even when we cannot see the full picture, and to act on His word without hesitation.
4. The Ultimate Preparation: The Marriage Supper of the Lamb – The devotional makes a powerful application: just as Jesus prepared the Passover with His disciples, He is coming again for the marriage supper of the Lamb. He has gone to prepare a place for the elect. Now, He expects us to be watchful and ready. Preparation for that glorious occasion requires faithfulness, holiness, and readiness.

Prayer Reflection
Lord, help me to be like Peter and John—willing to obey Your instructions without hesitation. I want to be ready for Your return. Prepare my heart, purify my life, and keep me watchful. I do not want to fail You when You come. I want to be found faithful and ready for the marriage supper of the Lamb. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
