Topic: Hudson Taylor: Laugh About Them!
Scriptures: Deut 1; Heb 11:32-40
Message: Many years ago, while the great missionary, J. Hudson Taylor was faced with a particularly challenging situation on the mission field, he wrote a letter to his wife. And in that letter, he said, “We Have Just Twenty-five Cents – And All The Promises Of God.” Wow! The promises of God! He reckoned himself to be rich because of the promises of God.
Instead of seeing LACK and FEAR OF FAILURE, he was focused on THE PROMISES of God! Oh! Lord, help us in 2021 to see Your PROMISES and not the PROGNOSIS (the cause) of PROBLEMS! Hear Charles Wesley: “Faith, mighty faith, sees the promise, and looks to God alone; laughs at impossibilities, and cries it shall be done.” Hear me, I want to challenge you to cultivate a new attitude to the impossibilities of life: LAUGH AT THEM!
In this year 2021, let the promises of God stir up fresh faith and joy in your heart and let them strengthen you to deal with the challenges that may come. When you hear the report that something is DELAYED, IMPOSSIBLE or DIFFICULT, go into your closet and pick up your Bible and find out what the promises of God has to say about that thing (see pages 38-39 of this booklet for promises).
If you can find the promises of God that can be applied to that situation, faith will grow in your heart and turn that impossibility around. Close with the words of Charles Spurgeon: “The assurance of every truth of Scripture is just the beauty of it. First because He has promised to do it; and God’s promises are bonds that never yet were dishonoured.
Secondly, because Christ Jesus hath taken an oath that He will do it.” God’s promises will never fail. Hold on to them, and you will never fail because HE WILL DO IT! Yes! HE WILL! Amen and amen! Pray now!
