TOPIC: THE FOUR PASTORS AND THE FOUR BIBLE TRANSLATIONS!
Four pastors were discussing the merits of the various translations of the Bible. One liked a particular version best because of its simple, beautiful English. Another preferred a more scholarly edition because it was closer to the original Hebrew and Greek. Still another liked a contemporary version because of its upto-date vocabulary. The fourth minister was silent for a moment, then said, “I like my mother’s translation best.” Surprised, the other three men said they didn’t know his mother had translated the Bible. “Yes,” he replied. ‘She translated it into life, and it was the most convincing translation I ever saw.” Wow! Did you get that? Instead of discussing translation preferences, this pastor reminded them that the most important focus should be learning God’s Word and doing it – PRACTICAL DAILY LIVING BY EXAMPLE! Today’s scripture vs. 12 says, “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” Note: “…set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” No wonder an English proverb says: “A good example is the best sermon.” Determine to be the change you wish to see in the world! I am always challenged by what this Hindu man – Mahatma Ghandi – said: “I Like Your Christ; I Do Not Like Your Christians. Your Christians Are So Unlike Your Christ.” Oh! May that not be the testimony of your life! Let your life be the best translation of the BIBLE! Be careful how you live; you may be the only Bible some people ever read! Be like the fourth pastor’s mother! Heaven at last!
