TOPIC: THE ATHLETES AND THEIR COACH!
Spectrum Magazine, had revealed many years ago stories about athletes and the help they receive from spiritual mentors. Several athletes were interviewed! When they were asked, “Tell me about your faith,” they replied, “Our chaplain really helps us. We know that we can go to him with anything. He is always there for us. We really believe in the chaplain.” Amazing! Did you hear that? They asked them about their faith and they responded, “Our chaplain really helps us…. we really believe in the chaplain.” So, they believed in the chaplain but not in the One who died on the cross! Is it wrong to believe in your pastor? No! No! No! Believe in your pastor only as he points you to Christ! As you march on in this Christian race, you must remember not to allow your devotion to a leader replace your devotion and allegiance to Christ. AVOID IDOL WORSHIP of men! Your slogan must be: “MORE of HIM and less of me/ANYBODY ELSE!” HE MUST INCREASE and you or ANYBODY ELSE must decrease! In today’s word, Paul reminded us that, “neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase” (Vs. 7 of today’s scripture). If you are a Christian leader, teach people to follow the Saviour, and not you! David De Haan wrote, “They truly lead who lead by love and humbly serve the Lord; their lives will bear the Spirit’s fruit and magnify His Word.” Therefore, as a leader, lead for Christ, and as a follower, follow those who follow Christ!
