TOPIC: THE MISSIONARY COUPLE – 1
Some years ago, a couple who had been in Africa for years as missionaries, were returning to New York City to retire. They were feeling frustrated, deflated, discouraged and defeated. Their health was failing and they had no retirement pension, etc. When they got to the wharf to board the ship, they discovered that they were booked coincidentally on the same ship with the former US president, Theodore Roosevelt, who was returning from a big game hunt. No one paid any attention to this old couple, but they watched the fanfare as the president arrived. A band was playing and many TV cameras beamed the fanfare to the world! It was GLAMOUR for the president but AGONY for the couple! As the ship crossed the Atlantic, the old missionary grew more and more depressed. He said to his wife, “Something is wrong. Why should we have given our lives in faithful service to God in Africa all these years, and yet no one cares for us? This man comes back from a hunting expedition and everyone throngs to see him. It doesn’t seem fair!” His wife tried to comfort him, but he was still sunk in depression! As the boat docked in America, more bands were playing and more crowds had turned out to greet the president. Many dignitaries were there, and the newspapers carried the story on the front pages. But no one noticed the missionaries! Wow! They got off the boat and went to look for a cheap apartment in a depressed mood. Yes, the man temporarily forgot Galatians 6: 9 – “And let us not be weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” As we continue tomorrow, never forget daily in this year 2026 that: God is God in the good times and in the bad times, whether you are on top of the mountain or in the valley. God is still a good God! No matter how hard the journey seems, never give up on God…(TO BE CONTINUED TOMORROW)! This is your year!
