DEEPER LIFE DAILY MANNA DCLM 8 February 2022 BY PASTOR W.F KUMUYI — Know Yourself
TEXT: John 8:12-31 (KJV)
12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.
14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
15 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.
16 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.
18 I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.
20 These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.
21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.
22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.
23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.
26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.
27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.
28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
30 As he spake these words, many believed on him.
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

DCLM DAILY MANNA 8th February 2022 DEVOTIONAL
The saying, “Know thyself” is mostly attributed to Socrates, the ancient Greek philosopher. Over time, this saying has been applied in different ways that it has acquired a variety of meanings. It can, however, serve as a word of caution or motivation. Self-knowledge will, on one hand, help a person to know his limits, on the other, bolster a person’s self-esteem and nudge him to act accordingly.
Jesus was conscious and unmistaken of who He was. He knew where He came from, the purpose of His coming and what happens to those that follow Him. Although the Pharisees doubted His claim of being the Messiah, their argument did not invalidate the truth of His assertion. He never focused on impressing it upon them that He was the Son of God. Neither did He shy away from telling them who they were.
One major problem many believers of today have is timidity. They find it difficult to tell others that they are born again Christians. It is as if they doubt their salvation experience in Christ. Knowing who we are will enable us take our stand in every situation. Jesus did not lose focus; He was able to explain His mission on earth that His traducers could no more argue.
You cannot truly know yourself until you come to Jesus Christ, “the light of the world”. He said, “he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life”. Everyone so redeemed has a definite and new elevated status as joint heirs with the Son. This comes with inalienable rights and privileges. Do you know yourself?
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:To know yourself, know the Lord.

Take a closer look to the words of Jesus
- “I am the light of the world” He did not say I am a light. It means without Jesus and His word the whole world will be in total moral darkness from generation to generations. It means any religion or philosophy outside Christ is nothing but darkness and errors v12.
“He that follows me shall not walk in darkness” It is only in diligently following Jesus and His words that you are on the right path. Any deviation, no matter how reasonable and attractive, is darkness and evil, v12.
“…if ye believe not that I am He, ye shall die in your sins”, v24b. Any other believe, either solely or supplementary, that is contrary, belittle, doubts or ignore the fact that Jesus is the only ressurected Saviour from all sins and wrath of God is eternally corrupted and deadly. Sympathisers of unification of religion should take Jesus very seriously.
“He that sent me is with me: the Father has not left me alone; for I do always those things that please Him”, v29. Here is the secret of constant divine presence – always doing things that pleases Him. You become odious to God and His angels, and “break the edge” through any action that displeases God at any time.
“If ye continue in my words, then are ye my disciples indeed”, v31. There are “mouth disciples”, “mental disciples”, “myopic disciples”, “money disciples”, “meat disciples”, mere church “membership disciples” etc. The true disciples are the “in deed disciples” who are continuously and practically doing the deeds of Jesus.
Do you have the light of Christ in you?
Are you pleasing the Lord always?
What type of disciples are you?
