PART ONE: THE ORIGINAL TEACHING

WHEN LIGHT COMES, DARKNESS HAS NO CAPACITY TO RESIST IT

Light speaks of revelation, and revelation is more than access to truth. Revelation exposes darkness. Light exposes what is hidden. It confronts evil. It reveals what darkness tries to cover.

Scripture defines light clearly: “All things that are reproved are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.” (Ephesians 5:13)

This is the nature of light: it makes things manifest. The Bible says, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” Light does not negotiate with darkness. Darkness has no capacity to resist it.

Jesus also taught that no one lights a lamp and hides it. A lamp is placed on a stand so it gives light to everyone in the house. Scripture says the people who sat in darkness saw a great light.

To sit in darkness means to agree with it, tolerate it, and partner with it. But when great light appears, comfort with darkness disappears. Light provokes dissatisfaction. Light stirs holy discontent. No one should sit in darkness and be comfortable.

I declare: Everything you have tolerated existed because darkness lied to you. As the Word of God comes, may it stir righteous dissatisfaction in you, so you refuse to tolerate anything Christ already paid for, except what God Himself has ordained for your destiny.

If you believe it, say Amen.

PART TWO: COMMENTARY ON THE TEACHING

Introduction: The Nature of Light

Apostle Joshua Selman delivers a profound revelation on the nature of light and its relationship to darkness. This teaching cuts to the heart of spiritual reality, addressing not just what we know but how we live.

Light, in Scripture, is more than illumination. It is revelation. And revelation is more than access to information or truth. Revelation is the unveiling of reality. It is the exposure of what was hidden. It is the confrontation of evil. It is the revealing of what darkness labors to conceal.

Light Defined: Ephesians 5:13

Apostle Selman anchors his teaching on Ephesians 5:13: “All things that are reproved are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.”

This verse establishes three critical truths:

1. Light Reproves – The word “reproved” means to expose, to convict, to bring to light. Light exposes what is wrong. It convicts of sin, of error, of hidden evil. Before light comes, these things can remain hidden. But when light shines, reproof is inevitable.

2. Light Makes Manifest – Manifestation is the process of becoming visible, tangible, and undeniable. Light does not just expose; it makes manifest. What was hidden becomes evident. What was secret becomes known. What was covered becomes revealed.

3. Light Defines Itself – The verse says “whatever makes manifest is light.” This means light is not just a substance; it is an activity. Anything that exposes, reveals, and makes manifest is functioning as light. Truth is light. The Word is light. The Spirit is light. God Himself is light.

The Power Dynamic: Light vs. Darkness

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” (John 1:5)

Apostle Selman draws from John’s gospel to reveal the power dynamic between light and darkness:

Light does not negotiate with darkness. There is no treaty, no compromise, no coexistence. Light simply shines, and darkness is displaced. You cannot negotiate with darkness; you can only illuminate it.

Darkness has no capacity to resist light. This is both a scientific truth and a spiritual reality. You cannot darken a room by adding darkness; you lighten a room by adding light. Darkness is not a force equal to light; it is the absence of light. When light comes, darkness has no choice but to flee. It has no power to withstand, no ability to resist, no capacity to remain.

The word “comprehend” carries multiple meanings. In the original Greek, it can mean to understand, to overcome, or to seize. Darkness cannot understand light. Darkness cannot overcome light. Darkness cannot seize or contain light. Light is always superior, always victorious, always dominant.

The Lamp on the Stand

Jesus taught that no one lights a lamp and hides it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house (Matthew 5:15).

This has profound implications:

Light is meant to be visible. If you have received light, you cannot hide it. You are placed on a stand—not for your glory, but for the illumination of others. Your calling is not to conceal but to reveal.

Light benefits everyone in the house. Your light is not just for you; it is for your family, your community, your generation. When you shine, others see. When you receive revelation, others benefit.

Hiding light is unnatural. It contradicts the very purpose of light. If you are hiding, you may not have light. If you have light, hiding becomes impossible. Light demands visibility.

Sitting in Darkness

“The people who sat in darkness saw a great light.” (Isaiah 9:2, Matthew 4:16)

Apostle Selman gives a penetrating definition: “To sit in darkness means to agree with it, tolerate it, and partner with it.”

This is a sobering truth that demands self-examination. Darkness is not merely a location; it is a posture. Sitting implies:

  • Acceptance – You have stopped resisting. You have made peace with the darkness.
  • Settling – You are not trying to leave. You have made yourself comfortable.
  • Passivity – You are no longer fighting. You have surrendered to the condition.

When you sit in darkness:
– You agree with the lies of the enemy
– You tolerate what God hates
– You partner with forces opposed to your destiny

Sitting in darkness is not neutral. It is active cooperation with the forces of deception and evil.

The Work of Great Light

But when great light appears, everything changes:

Comfort with darkness disappears. What you once tolerated becomes intolerable. What you once accepted becomes unacceptable. The things you made peace with now provoke you.

Light provokes dissatisfaction. Holy discontent arises. You begin to hunger for more, to thirst for righteousness, to yearn for God’s best. The status quo is no longer enough.

Light stirs holy discontent. This is not the discontent of the flesh—complaining, grumbling, murmuring. It is the discontent of the spirit—a divine dissatisfaction with anything less than God’s will, a holy restlessness that drives you toward your destiny.

The Declaration

Apostle Selman releases a powerful declaration:

“Everything you have tolerated existed because darkness lied to you.”

This is a liberating truth that breaks the power of deception. You did not tolerate:

  • Lack because you deserved it; you tolerated it because darkness lied to you about your inheritance
  • Sickness because it was God’s will; you tolerated it because darkness lied to you about healing
  • Bondage because it was permanent; you tolerated it because darkness lied to you about freedom
  • Failure because it was your lot; you tolerated it because darkness lied to you about your identity

Darkness operates through deception. It convinces you that what is abnormal is normal, that what is temporary is permanent, that what is curable is incurable, that what is changeable is unchangeable.

The prayer follows:

“As the Word of God comes, may it stir righteous dissatisfaction in you, so you refuse to tolerate anything Christ already paid for, except what God Himself has ordained for your destiny.”

This is the purpose of light: to expose the lies of darkness, to stir holy discontent, and to propel you into the fullness of what Christ purchased. Light does not just reveal what is wrong; it empowers you to pursue what is right.

The Amen

“If you believe it, say Amen.”

This is not a passive agreement but an active declaration. To say Amen is to:

  • Align yourself with the truth
  • Receive the word into your spirit
  • Position yourself for the light to do its work
  • Covenant with God to no longer tolerate darkness

Amen is not just the end of a prayer; it is the beginning of a new reality.

PART THREE: THEOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS

Light in Scripture

Throughout the Bible, light represents:

The Nature of God – 1 John 1:5 declares, “God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.” Light is not just something God has; it is who God is.

The Person of Christ – John 8:12 records Jesus saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

The Identity of Believers – Matthew 5:14 commands, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

The Function of Scripture – Psalm 119:105 testifies, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

The Work of the Spirit – Revelation reveals, anoints, and illuminates.

Darkness in Scripture

Darkness represents:

Ignorance – Not knowing the truth
Deception – Believing lies
Evil – Moral corruption
The Absence of God – Separation from His presence
The Domain of Satan – The kingdom of darkness

The Confrontation

The confrontation between light and darkness is not a battle between equals. Light always wins. The resurrection is the ultimate proof: when the light of God’s glory shone into the tomb, death could not hold Him. When light comes, darkness must go.

The Response to Light

When light comes, there are only two possible responses:

Reception – Those who love truth come to the light, that their deeds may be clearly seen (John 3:21). They welcome exposure because they desire transformation.

Rejection – Those who love darkness hate the light and will not come to it, lest their deeds be exposed (John 3:19-20). They resist exposure because they prefer their sin.

PART FOUR: DECLARATIONS BASED ON THIS TEACHING

Declare these aloud:

  1. I DECLARE that light has come into my darkness!

  2. I DECLARE that revelation is more than access to truth; it is exposure of every hidden thing!

  3. I DECLARE that every work of darkness in my life is exposed by the light of God!

  4. I DECLARE that darkness has no capacity to resist the light that is in me!

  5. I DECLARE that I am a lamp on a stand, giving light to everyone in my house!

  6. I DECLARE that I no longer sit in darkness, agreeing with it, tolerating it, or partnering with it!

  7. I DECLARE that great light has appeared, and my comfort with darkness is gone!

  8. I DECLARE that holy discontent is stirred in me for everything Christ paid for!

  9. I DECLARE that I refuse to tolerate anything that is not ordained for my destiny!

  10. I DECLARE that every lie of darkness is exposed and destroyed by the light of God’s Word!

  11. I DECLARE that I walk in the light as He is in the light!

  12. I DECLARE that the blood of Jesus cleanses me from all sin as I walk in the light!

  13. I DECLARE that I am a child of light, and I bear the fruit of light—goodness, righteousness, and truth!

  14. I DECLARE that the light in me shines brighter and brighter unto the perfect day!

  15. I DECLARE that I am transformed by the renewing of my mind as light floods my understanding!

PART FIVE: PRAYER

Father, I thank You for the revelation of light. I thank You that You are light, and in You is no darkness at all. I thank You that Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Lord, I invite Your light into every dark area of my life. Shine into my mind and expose every lie I have believed. Shine into my heart and reveal every hidden motive. Shine into my circumstances and manifest Your truth. Shine into my past and heal every wound. Shine into my future and illuminate my path.

I declare that darkness has no capacity to resist Your light. Every work of the enemy is exposed. Every deception is destroyed. Every hidden thing is brought into the open. Every lie is silenced by truth.

Stir in me holy discontent. Let me no longer tolerate what Christ has already paid for. Let me no longer sit in darkness, agreeing with lies, accepting defeat, partnering with the enemy. Let me arise and shine, for my light has come.

I receive the light of revelation. I receive the light of truth. I receive the light of Your presence. I receive the light of Your Word. I receive the light of Your Spirit.

I refuse to tolerate anything less than Your best for my life.

In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

CONCLUSION: THE IMPACT OF LIGHT

Apostle Joshua Selman’s teaching on light and darkness is a call to awakening. It challenges every believer to examine their posture toward darkness. Are we sitting in it, tolerating it, partnering with it? Or are we standing in the light, exposing darkness, and walking in truth?

The promise is clear: when light comes, darkness has no capacity to resist it. Not some darkness. Not most darkness. NO darkness. Light always wins.

The call is urgent: refuse to tolerate anything Christ already paid for. Let holy discontent drive you toward your destiny. Let the light of revelation expose every lie. Let the truth set you free.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Hallelujah!
