BASIC SCRIPTURES: ISAIAH 43:18-19; 2 KINGS 4:1-7

BASIC SCRIPTURE: SATURDAY, 24TH OCTOBER 2026 — ISAIAH 43:18-19 (KJV)

  1. Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.

  2. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

BASIC SCRIPTURE: 2 KINGS 4:1-7 (KJV)

  1. Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.

  2. And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.

  3. Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.

  4. And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.

  5. So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.

  6. And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.

  7. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy sons of the rest.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — SATURDAY, 24TH OCTOBER 2026

Key Verse (Isaiah): Isaiah 43:19 — “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”

Key Verse (2 Kings): 2 Kings 4:2 — “And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.”

Remember Not the Former Things (Isaiah 43:18):

God speaks to His people. He tells them to forget the former things. He tells them not to consider the things of old. He is not saying that history does not matter. He is not saying that we should not learn from the past. He is saying that we should not be stuck in the past. We should not dwell on past failures. We should not dwell on past disappointments. We should not dwell on past hurts. We should not dwell on past glories. The past is past. It is gone. It cannot be changed. It cannot be relived. It cannot be repeated. It is time to move forward. It is time to look ahead. It is time to embrace the new.

Behold, I Will Do a New Thing (Isaiah 43:19):

God announces a new thing. He is doing something new. He is not doing the same old thing. He is not repeating the same old patterns. He is not following the same old routines. He is doing a new thing. And it is already springing forth. It is already beginning. It is already emerging. It is already appearing. But will you know it? Will you see it? Will you perceive it? Will you recognize it? Will you embrace it? God is doing a new thing. But if you are stuck in the past, you will miss it. If you are focused on the old, you will not see the new. If you are dwelling on what was, you will not embrace what is.

I Will Make a Way in the Wilderness (Isaiah 43:19):

God makes a way in the wilderness. The wilderness is a place of no paths. It is a place of no roads. It is a place of no direction. It is a place of confusion. It is a place of desolation. It is a place of barrenness. But God makes a way. He creates a path. He opens a road. He gives direction. He brings clarity. He guides. He leads. He directs. In the wilderness. In the place where there is no way. God makes a way. And He brings rivers in the desert. The desert is dry. The desert is parched. The desert is thirsty. The desert is dead. But God brings rivers. He brings water. He brings life. He brings refreshment. He brings abundance. In the desert. In the dry place. In the barren place. In the dead place. God brings rivers.

The Widow’s Cry (2 Kings 4:1):

A certain woman cried out to Elisha. She was the wife of a prophet. Her husband was dead. She was a widow. She was alone. She was vulnerable. She was in debt. And the creditor was coming. He was coming to take her two sons. He was coming to make them bondmen. He was coming to take them as slaves. He was coming to take them away from her. She was about to lose everything. She was about to lose her children. She was about to lose her family. She was about to lose her future. She cried out to the man of God. She cried out for help. She cried out for deliverance. She cried out for rescue.

What Hast Thou in the House? (2 Kings 4:2):

Elisha asked her a question. “What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house?” He did not ask her what she did not have. He did not ask her what she had lost. He did not ask her what she needed. He asked her what she had. He asked her what was in her house. He asked her what was in her possession. He asked her what was in her hand. She answered, “Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.” She had a pot of oil. It was little. It was small. It was insignificant. It was not enough to pay the debt. It was not enough to save her sons. It was not enough to change her situation. But it was something. It was what she had. It was what was in her house. It was what was in her hand.

Borrow Empty Vessels (2 Kings 4:3-4):

Elisha gave her an instruction. “Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.” She was to borrow vessels. She was to borrow empty vessels. She was to borrow many vessels. She was to borrow not a few. She was to gather as many as she could. She was to collect as many as she could. She was to accumulate as many as she could. And then she was to shut the door. She was to shut the door upon herself and upon her sons. She was to shut out the doubt. She was to shut out the unbelief. She was to shut out the distraction. And she was to pour out into all those vessels. She was to pour the oil into the vessels. She was to pour the little into the many. She was to pour the insufficient into the empty.

The Multiplication (2 Kings 4:5-6):

She obeyed. She went. She borrowed the vessels. She shut the door. She poured out. And the oil multiplied. The oil flowed. The oil continued. The oil did not stop. The oil did not run out. The oil filled vessel after vessel. The oil filled container after container. The oil filled pot after pot. Until there was no more vessel. Until there was no more container. Until there was no more pot. And the oil stayed. The oil stopped. The oil ceased. Because there was no more vessel to fill. The multiplication was limited by the number of vessels. If there had been more vessels, there would have been more oil. If there had been more containers, there would have been more abundance. If there had been more pots, there would have been more provision. The oil stopped because the vessels stopped. The supply stopped because the containers stopped. The abundance stopped because the capacity stopped.

Go, Sell the Oil, Pay Thy Debt (2 Kings 4:7):

She came and told the man of God. And he gave her the final instruction. “Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy sons of the rest.” She was to sell the oil. She was to sell the abundance. She was to sell the provision. She was to pay her debt. She was to settle her obligation. She was to clear her account. And she was to live. She and her sons. Of the rest. Of the surplus. Of the abundance. Of the overflow. She was not just to survive. She was not just to get by. She was not just to barely make it. She was to live. She was to thrive. She was to prosper. She was to flourish. She and her sons. Of the rest.

The Lesson for Us:

Do not dwell on the past. Do not be stuck in the former things. God is doing a new thing. He is making a way in the wilderness. He is bringing rivers in the desert. And He wants to use what you have. He wants to use the little in your hand. He wants to use the small in your house. He wants to use the insignificant in your possession. Do not despise it. Do not overlook it. Do not underestimate it. Give it to God. Put it in His hands. Obey His instructions. Gather your vessels. Shut the door. Pour out. And watch Him multiply. Watch Him provide. Watch Him deliver. Watch Him restore. Watch Him give you more than enough. Not just to pay your debt. Not just to meet your need. But to live. To thrive. To prosper. To flourish. You and your household. Of the rest.

Question for the Day — Saturday, 24th October 2026:

Are you stuck in the past? Are you dwelling on the former things? Are you despising the little in your hand? God is doing a new thing. He is making a way in your wilderness. He is bringing rivers in your desert. Give Him what you have. Obey His instructions. And watch Him multiply.
