BASIC SCRIPTURE: EXODUS 2:11-15 (KJV)

And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.

And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?

And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.

Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.

Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.

And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.

Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.

PRAYER POINTS

Father, deliver me from the spirit of premature action. Let me not act in my own strength before You have sent me.

Lord, forgive me for every time I have tried to deliver others in my own way and not in Yours.

Father, teach me to wait on You, as Moses waited in the wilderness for forty years. Let me be patient for Your timing.

Lord, let me encounter You in the burning bush. Let me see Your glory and hear Your voice.

Father, let me remove my shoes and stand on holy ground. Let me approach You with reverence and awe.

Lord, I receive Your commission. Send me as You sent Moses. Let me go in Your name and with Your authority.

Father, I believe that You have seen my affliction, heard my cry, and know my sorrows. Deliver me from every oppression.

Lord, I receive Your promise to bring me into a good land and a large, a land flowing with milk and honey.
DECLARATIONS

I declare that I will not act in my own strength. I will wait for God’s timing and God’s sending.

I repent of every attempt to deliver others in my own way. I will do things God’s way.

I wait on the Lord. I am patient for His timing. I am not in a hurry.

I encounter God in the burning bush. I see His glory and hear His voice.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION
Key Verse (Exodus 3): Exodus 3:10 — “Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.”
The First Attempt (Exodus 2:11-15):
Moses was raised in Pharaoh’s palace. He had power. He had position. He had influence. He saw an Egyptian smiting a Hebrew. He looked both ways. He saw no one. He killed the Egyptian and hid him. He thought he was helping. He thought he was delivering his people. He thought he was acting for God. But he was acting in his own strength. He was acting on his own timing. He was using his own methods. And it failed. He was rejected by his own people. He was hunted by Pharaoh. He fled to Midian. He sat by a well. He was a failure. He was a fugitive. He was alone. He had failed.
The Waiting (Exodus 2:15-3:1):
Moses spent forty years in Midian. He was a shepherd. He was a nobody. He was forgotten. He was out of the palace. He was out of Egypt. He was out of the spotlight. He was being humbled. He was being trained. He was being prepared. He was learning patience. He was learning dependence. He was learning to wait. God was working. God was preparing. God was waiting for the right time.
The Burning Bush (Exodus 3:2-4):
Moses saw a burning bush. It was on fire, but it was not consumed. It was a great sight. It was a supernatural sight. It was a revelation of God. Moses turned aside to see it. He was curious. He was interested. He was drawn. And when God saw that he turned aside, He spoke. God called his name: “Moses, Moses.” Moses responded, “Here am I.” God speaks to those who stop to look. God calls to those who turn aside. God reveals Himself to those who are curious about His presence.
The Holy Ground (Exodus 3:5):
God told Moses to take off his shoes. The place was holy ground. It was not because the ground was special. It was because God was there. His presence makes any place holy. Moses was to approach with reverence. He was to approach with humility. He was to approach with awe. He was not to come casually. He was not to come presumptuously. He was to come with respect for the holiness of God.
The Revelation (Exodus 3:6):
God revealed Himself: “I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” This was the God of the covenant. This was the God of the promise. This was the God who had spoken to the patriarchs. This was the God who had made promises. And He was now speaking to Moses. Moses hid his face. He was afraid to look upon God. Fear and reverence are appropriate in the presence of the holy.
The Commission (Exodus 3:7-10):
God spoke. He had seen the affliction of His people. He had heard their cry. He knew their sorrows. He had come down to deliver them. And He said, “Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people.” Moses would not go in his own strength. He would go in God’s strength. He would not go on his own timing. He would go on God’s timing. He would not go with his own authority. He would go with God’s authority. Forty years earlier, Moses had tried to deliver Israel in his own way. He failed. Now, God would send him. And he would succeed.
Question for the Day:
Are you acting in your own strength or waiting for God’s sending? Are you willing to wait in the wilderness until God is ready? And when the burning bush appears, will you turn aside and hear His voice?
