TOPIC: THE MISTAKE OF THE PHILISTINES
Goliath was a major character in the Biblical story involving David. A lot has been said about how David defeated Goliath giving the Israelites confidence to defeat the Philistines. But hear me, if the Philistines had charged at the Israelites after the defeat of Goliath instead of cowardly running away, they may have stood a chance to defeat the Israelites or at least made a greater impact! But they feared that their Goliath, their champion, their god was down; so they ran away in fear! Listen, the object of your confidence can be the object of your fear and defeat or your faith and victory. Our basic scripture in Psalm 112:7 says, “He will not be afraid of evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord” As children of God, the reason for our courage and faith is God. Even when you hear news that sound like evil tidings as a child of God, it should not move you because you know your God can never lose. ALL THINGS WILL WORK TOGETHER FOR YOU! If there is a little defeat, you do not run away because your object of confidence and courage is too powerful to be defeated or killed in battle. Yes! Unlike the Philistines, their object of confidence was Goliath, so once their courage-giver died, they had no other courage. NEVER rely on money or people for your confidence this year! These objects of courage can shatter and fail. But the LORD JESUS CHRIST is the God that is beyond fear! Even fear bows at the mention of His name! Whatever it is, your children, your business, your health, marriage, immigration issues, etc, that is giving you cause to fear, listen to this: YOUR GOD SAYS THAT HE HAS DEFEATED THEM! FEAR NOT! He has not given you the spirit of fear, but of love and a SOUND MIND (2 Timothy 1: 7). Nelson Mandela said, “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.” Ah! When fear shows up, say to it, “I have triumphed over you in Jesus name!” Remember: The Philistines ran away, after the defeat of Goliath! They may have stood a chance to make a greater impact even before their final fall. Learn from that!
