51. Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.

BASIC SCRIPTURE: DEUTERONOMY 31:1-6 (KJV)

1. And Moses went and spake these words unto all Israel.

2. And he said unto them, I am an hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: also the LORD hath said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan.

3. The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said.

4. And the LORD shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, kings of the Amorites, and unto the land of them, whom he destroyed.

5. And the LORD shall give them up before your face, that ye may do unto them according unto all the commandments which I have commanded you.

6. Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, give me the boldness of David — to run toward my Goliath, to stand upon the enemy, and to take his own sword and cut off his head.

2. Lord, when my champion falls — when my enemy is defeated — let all the other Philistines see it and flee. Let one victory scatter many enemies.

3. Father, when my Moses season ends — when the leader who brought me this far cannot go over Jordan with me — let me not be afraid. Let me know that You are still with me.

4. Lord, I receive Your word: “The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee.” You are not sending me alone. You are going ahead of me into every battle.

5. Father, let me possess every nation of giants before me. As You did to Sihon and Og, do to every enemy standing in my promised land.

6. Lord, give me the spirit of Joshua — not mourning over Moses, but arising to go over Jordan. Let me step into my inheritance without fear.

7. Father, I receive Your command: “Be strong and of a good courage.” I will not fear. I will not be afraid. No giant, no river, no wall shall make me tremble.

8. Lord, I hold onto Your promise: “He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” When everyone else leaves, when every Moses dies, You remain. I am not alone.

DECLARATIONS

1. I declare that I run toward every Goliath. I stand upon the enemy. I take his own sword and cut off his head.

2. When my champion falls, the Philistines flee. One victory scatters a thousand enemies.

3. My Moses may die, but my God lives. The leader may change, but the Lord remains.

4. The Lord my God goes over before me. He destroys the nations before me. I shall possess my promised land.

5. Every Sihon and Og — every giant of the past — is destroyed before my face. The Lord gives them up into my hands.

6. I am strong and of good courage. I will not fear. I will not be afraid.

7. The Lord my God goes with me. He will not fail me. He will not forsake me.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION

Key Verse (1 Samuel): 1 Samuel 17:51 — “David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith.”

Key Verse (Deuteronomy): Deuteronomy 31:6 — “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”

The Two Transitions:

These two passages speak to different kinds of transitions. In 1 Samuel 17, David transitions from shepherd boy to giant slayer. He runs toward the enemy, stands on him, takes his sword, and cuts off his head. In Deuteronomy 31, Israel transitions from Moses to Joshua. Moses is 120 years old and cannot go over Jordan. But God is going before them. Both passages are about courage, action, and trust in God.

The Sword of the Enemy:

David started the battle with a sling and a stone — his own weapons. He ended the battle with Goliath’s sword — the enemy’s weapon. David took what belonged to Goliath and used it to finish Goliath. God will give you the enemy’s own tools to complete your victory. What the enemy meant for your harm will become the instrument of his own destruction.

Cutting Off the Head:

David did not just knock Goliath down. He cut off his head. A wounded giant can still rise again. A headless giant cannot. Do not just wound your enemy. Finish the job. Cut off the head. Make sure the Philistines see that their champion is truly dead. Then they will flee.

The Death of Moses (Deuteronomy 31:2):

Moses told Israel, “I am an hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in.” Moses was not sick. He was not defeated. His time was simply over. Every Moses in your life will eventually die — every mentor, every leader, every season, every familiar comfort. The question is not whether they will die, but whether you will be ready to go over Jordan without them.

The LORD Thy God, He Will Go Over Before Thee (Deuteronomy 31:3):

Moses could not go over Jordan, but God could. The leader may leave, but the Lord leads. He goes before you. He destroys the nations before you. He gives you the land. Your confidence is not in Moses. Your confidence is in the God of Moses.

Sihon and Og (Deuteronomy 31:4):

Moses reminded Israel of two kings they had already defeated — Sihon and Og. These were giants. These were impossible odds. But God destroyed them. The same God who did it before will do it again. Remember your past victories. The God who fought for you then will fight for you now.

Be Strong and of Good Courage (Deuteronomy 31:6):

This command appears again and again in Scripture. It is not a suggestion. It is a command. Be strong. Be courageous. Fear not. Be not afraid. And then the promise: “For the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” The command is based on the promise. You can be strong because He goes with you. You can be courageous because He will not fail you.

He Will Not Fail Thee, Nor Forsake Thee (Deuteronomy 31:6):

This promise is quoted throughout the Bible. It is the foundation of courage. When everyone else fails you, God will not. When everyone else forsakes you, God will not. He is faithful. He is present. He is enough.

Question for the Day:

Is your Moses dying? Is a season ending? A leader leaving? A comfort fading? Do not be afraid. The Lord your God goes over before you. He will not fail you. He will not forsake you. Be strong. Be courageous. Run toward your Goliath. Cut off his head. Cross your Jordan.
