DAILY REFLECTION – FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2026

📖 SCRIPTURE READINGS
First Reading: 1 Corinthians 4:1-5
“Think of us in this way, as servants of Christ and stewards of God’s mysteries. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy. But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. I do not even judge myself. I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me. Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive commendation from God.”
Psalm: Psalm 37:3-4, 5-6, 27-28, 39-40
“Trust in the Lord, and do good; so you will live in the land, and enjoy security. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will make your vindication shine like the light, and the justice of your cause like the noonday.”
Gospel Reading: Luke 5:33-39
“Then they said to him, ‘John’s disciples, like the disciples of the Pharisees, frequently fast and pray, but your disciples eat and drink.’ Jesus said to them, ‘You cannot make wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them, can you? The days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.’ He also told them a parable: ‘No one tears a piece from a new garment and sews it on an old garment; otherwise the new will be torn, and the piece from the new will not match the old. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the new wine will burst the skins and will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed. But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins. And no one after drinking old wine desires new wine, but says, “The old is good.”‘”
💬 REFLECTION BY BISHOP ROBERT BARRON
Friends, in today’s Gospel, people ask Jesus why he doesn’t encourage fasting among his followers. Jesus’s answer is wonderful: “Can you make the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?” (That’s a typically Jewish style, by the way, answering a question with another question.)
This great image of the wedding feast comes up frequently in the New Testament, most obviously in the wedding feast at Cana narrative. And it is echoed in the tradition. Jesus is the wedding of heaven and earth, the marriage of divinity and humanity; he is the bridegroom and the Church is the bride. In him, the most intimate union is achieved between God and the world.
Could you imagine people fasting at a wedding banquet? Could you imagine going into an elegant room with your fellow guests and being served bread and water? It would be ridiculous! The mark of the Christian dispensation is joy. Exuberance. Delight. God and the world have come together. What could be better news?

1. PRAYER FOR THE JOY OF THE BRIDEGROOM
“Father, I thank You that Jesus is the bridegroom, and I am invited to the wedding feast. I declare that the joy of the Lord is my strength. I am not fasting in sorrow—I am feasting in joy because the bridegroom is with me. Let Your joy fill my heart, my home, and my testimony. In Jesus’ name!”
2. PRAYER FOR NEW WINE IN NEW WINESKINS
“Father, I declare that I am a new wineskin. I am not holding onto the old. I am not clinging to the past. I am receiving the NEW WINE of Your Spirit. Let the new wine of Your glory, Your power, and Your presence fill me to overflowing. I am ready for the new thing You are doing. In Jesus’ name!”
3. PRAYER FOR THE GLORY OF THE WEDDING FEAST
“Father, I receive the glory of the wedding feast. Like the wedding at Cana where You turned water into wine, turn my water into wine. Turn my ordinary into extraordinary. Turn my lack into abundance. Turn my sorrow into joy. Let Your glory be manifested in my life. In Jesus’ name!”
4. PRAYER AGAINST THE SPIRIT OF JUDGMENT
“Father, Your Word declares in 1 Corinthians 4:5, ‘Do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes.’ I release every person who has judged me. I release every voice that has condemned me. I release every opinion that has limited me. The Lord is my judge, and He has commended me. In Jesus’ name!”

“Father, Your Word declares in Psalm 37:4, ‘Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.’ I delight in You. I delight in Your presence. I delight in Your Word. 🕊️ THE MARRIAGE OF HEAVEN AND EARTH
Bishop Barron beautifully describes Jesus as “the wedding of heaven and earth, the marriage of divinity and humanity.” This is the essence of the Gospel:
- Heaven meets earth in Jesus Christ.
- Divinity meets humanity in Jesus Christ.
- Glory meets our need in Jesus Christ.
- Joy meets our sorrow in Jesus Christ.
Today, as you connect to the GLORY FRIDAY IMPARTATION, remember that the bridegroom is with you. There is no need to fast in sorrow. There is no need to mourn in despair. There is no need to weep in defeat. The bridegroom is HERE! The wedding feast is ON! The wine is FLOWING! The glory is FALLING!
