BASIC SCRIPTURE: 1 SAMUEL 2: 1-10

BASIC SCRIPTURE: 1 SAMUEL 2:1-10 (KJV)

1. And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

2. There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

3. Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

4. The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.

5. They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.

6. The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.

7. The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.

8. He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’s, and he hath set the world upon them.

9. He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

10. The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

PRAYER POINTS

Hannah’s Prayer (Verse 1):

Hannah had been barren. She had been mocked. She had been despised. She had been in deep distress. She had poured out her soul before the Lord. She had made a vow. She had given her son Samuel to the Lord. Now she was rejoicing. Her heart rejoiced in the Lord. Her horn was exalted. Her mouth was enlarged over her enemies. She was celebrating God’s salvation. She was testifying to His goodness. She was praising His name.

None Holy as the Lord (Verse 2):

Hannah declares the uniqueness of God. There is none holy as the Lord. He is utterly separate. He is completely pure. He is absolutely perfect. He is totally righteous. There is none beside Him. He is the only God. There is no other. He is incomparable. He is unrivaled. He is supreme. Neither is there any rock like our God. He is a refuge. He is a fortress. He is a stronghold. He is a defense. He is a sure foundation. He is the Rock. There is no other.

Actions Are Weighed (Verse 3):

Hannah warns against pride and arrogance. Proud talk is out of place. Arrogance has no place. The Lord is a God of knowledge. He knows everything. He knows the heart. He knows the motives. He knows the intentions. He knows the secrets. And by Him actions are weighed. He evaluates. He judges. He measures. He considers. He weighs everything in the balance. Nothing is hidden. Nothing is overlooked. Nothing is forgotten.

The Reversal (Verses 4-5):

Hannah describes the reversal that God brings. The bows of the mighty are broken. The strong are defeated. The weak are strengthened. Those who stumbled are girded with strength. The full are hungry. The hungry are full. The barren bears seven. The one with many children is waxed feeble. God reverses the fortunes of men. He brings down the proud. He lifts up the humble. He humbles the mighty. He exalts the lowly. He does what no one expects.

The Sovereign God (Verses 6-8):

Hannah exalts God’s sovereignty. The Lord kills and makes alive. He brings down to the grave and brings up. He makes poor and makes rich. He brings low and lifts up. He raises up the poor out of the dust. He lifts up the beggar from the dunghill. He sets them among princes. He makes them inherit the throne of glory. God is in control. He is sovereign. He does as He pleases. He reverses situations. He changes circumstances. He transforms lives. He lifts the lowly. He humbles the proud. He is the God of reversals. He is the God of new beginnings. He is the God of hope.

The Pillars of the Earth (Verse 8):

The pillars of the earth are the Lord’s. He has set the world upon them. Everything is under His control. Everything is subject to His authority. Everything is in His hands. He is the foundation. He is the sustainer. He is the ruler. He is the king. He is the judge. He is the sovereign. He is the Lord.

He Will Keep the Feet of His Saints (Verse 9):

This is a promise of preservation. He will keep the feet of His saints. They will not slip. They will not fall. They will not be destroyed. He will guard their steps. He will protect their way. He will preserve their path. The wicked shall be silent in darkness. They will be silenced. They will be humbled. They will be judged. By strength shall no man prevail. Human strength is not enough. Human power is not enough. Human effort is not enough. God is the one who gives strength. God is the one who gives victory.

Exalt the Horn of His Anointed (Verse 10):

The adversaries of the Lord will be broken. He will thunder upon them. He will judge the ends of the earth. He will give strength to His king. He will exalt the horn of His anointed. This points to Christ. He is the ultimate Anointed One. He is the King. He is the Messiah. He is the one who will reign forever. He is the one whose horn will be exalted. He is the one who will judge the world. He is the one who will defeat His enemies. He is the one who will establish His kingdom. He is the one who will be praised forever.

Question for the Day:

Is your heart rejoicing in the Lord? Are you trusting in the sovereign God who raises up the poor and lifts up the beggar? Are you relying on human strength or on God’s power? And are you confident that He will keep your feet and exalt His anointed?
