DCLM DAILY MANNA DEVOTIONAL – 14TH APRIL 2026
Made Alive in Christ

“And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses.” – Colossians 2:13
TEXT: Colossians 2:13-19 (KJV)
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY
Proper knowledge and understanding of oneself, status and standing is crucial for living a fulfilling and empowered life. Being aware of one’s position and rights helps one to be better equipped to navigate life’s challenges, assert oneself and live an overcoming life.
Apostle Paul recognizes the importance of properly knowing oneself and status. This is why he tried to make the Colossian believers understand their new position in Christ. He highlights the transformation the new believer experiences, going from a state of spiritual death to a new life. Having been made alive in Christ, all debts of sin are forgiven and cancelled, and the powers of darkness are defeated and rendered useless for him.
Now, he can live in daily triumph, and there is no reason to subject himself to deceptive philosophies and teachings based on human traditions instead of the truth of Christ.
We are cheated in life when we do not know who we are as Christians. Many are still ignorant. It is this lack of knowledge that the devil exploits to bring such Christians into captivity.
It is also why many fall prey to false prophets and deceivers, and stagnate in spiritual growth. Having a proper awareness as believers gives us liberty and helps us to triumph over all foes. We move from being dead in sin to being alive in Christ. By this translation, we no longer become subject to the powers of darkness that oppressed us while we were sinners.
We no longer carry the guilt and condemnation of sin; we become complete in Christ. All that we will ever need is fully provided for in Christ.
This is the true picture of every Christian. Do not allow the devil to make you believe otherwise. It is an aberration for anyone who claims to have given his life to Christ to remain captive to sin, the devil, and the powers of darkness. It is essential for every believer to continuously read the Bible to discover who they are and what they have in Christ. It also highlights the importance of being in the right place of worship, where the full-orbed truth of Scripture is taught.
The devil does not engage with a believer who is fully aware of their standing in Christ and fully armed with the truth of the Scripture.

COMMENTARY
Introduction: The Tragedy of Ignorance
Pastor W. F. Kumuyi opens this devotion with a sobering truth: ignorance is not bliss; it is a trap. Many believers live defeated lives not because the devil is powerful, but because they are ignorant of who they are in Christ. Proper knowledge of one’s status and standing is essential for living an overcoming life.
The devil exploits ignorance. He keeps believers in bondage by keeping them in the dark about their rights, privileges, and position in Christ. This lack of knowledge leads to captivity, stagnation, and vulnerability to deception.
The Transformation: From Death to Life
The key verse, Colossians 2:13, describes the radical transformation every believer experiences. Before Christ, we were dead in sins. Dead people cannot respond, cannot move, cannot save themselves. But God “quickened” us—made us alive—together with Christ.
This is not a gradual improvement; it is a resurrection. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is the power that raised you from spiritual death.
The Cancellation of Debt
Verse 14 speaks of “the handwriting of ordinances that was against us.” This refers to the record of our debts—every sin, every transgression, every failure. This record was contrary to us; it stood as evidence of our guilt.
But Jesus took that record and nailed it to His cross. It is not merely erased; it is publicly cancelled. The debt is paid in full. No creditor can come back to collect what has already been settled.
The Defeat of Powers
Verse 15 declares that Jesus “spoiled principalities and powers”—He disarmed them. The enemy’s weapons have been stripped away. He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them. The cross was not a defeat; it was a parade of victory.
This means that no demon, no satanic force, no power of darkness has any authority over a believer who is in Christ. They are defeated foes, not conquering forces.
Freedom from Human Traditions
Because of this victory, believers are no longer subject to “deceptive philosophies and teachings based on human traditions.” Legalism, asceticism, and man-made rules have no power over those who are complete in Christ.
We are not saved by what we eat or drink, by observing holy days, or by following religious regulations. These are shadows; the substance is Christ.
The Danger of Being Beguiled
Verse 18 warns against being “beguiled” or cheated of our reward. False humility, worship of angels, and vain imaginations can lead believers astray. Those who do not hold fast to Christ, the Head, become disconnected from the source of nourishment and growth.
The Call to Knowledge
The devotion concludes with a practical exhortation: continuously read the Bible to discover who you are and what you have in Christ. Be in a place of worship where the full truth of Scripture is taught.
A believer who is fully aware of their standing in Christ is a believer the devil does not engage with. Not because the devil is not trying, but because such a believer is fully armed and cannot be easily deceived.

I DECLARE that I hold fast to Christ, the Head, and I increase with the increase of God!
PRAYER FOR THE DAY
Father, I thank You for making me alive in Christ when I was dead in my sins. I thank You for cancelling every debt, nailing it to the cross, and disarming the powers of darkness.
Forgive me for the times I have lived in ignorance of my standing in You. Teach me Your Word so that I may know who I am and what I have in Christ.
I declare that I am complete in Him. I will not be cheated of my reward. I hold fast to the Head, from whom all nourishment comes.
Let me not be captive to sin, the devil, or any deception. I am free. I am alive. I am Yours.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
