DCLM Daily Manna Devotional – 4th May 2026
Topic: The Wages of Indifference
Text: Zephaniah 1:10-18 (KJV)

Devotional Message:
It has been said that “Indifferent people cannot build a different world.” If you remain neutral, showing no interest in intervening for the good of your environment, you risk the grave danger of having others make unpleasant decisions for you. If we want societal changes, we must participate in collective efforts to effect the reforms we seek. Otherwise, external forces would impose on us what we do not bargain for.
God frowned at such an indifferent attitude among the inhabitants of Jerusalem during the ministry of Zephaniah some 630 years before the coming of Jesus Christ. They not only charged the Lord with indifference (“The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil,” they said), but they also slid into a life of ease after amassing silver and gold. They built houses and planted vineyards that gave them wine. They worshipped their wealth and became deaf to the call for righteousness. They were neither here nor there in spiritual matters, unaware that divine judgment was around the corner, as prophesied by Zephaniah.
Our generation has not learned from the mistakes of the people of Jerusalem. Men and women in their millions still go about with little or no concern about the warnings given by preachers of the gospel that the end is near when God will fulfill His promise, “And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity, and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible” (Isaiah 13:11).
Man’s apathy cannot in any way alter God’s resolve to punish sin, and should not stop us from our evangelistic mandate. Instead, we are to lovingly warn the middle-of-the-road people that the wages of their indifference is death. They cannot avoid being hit when the mighty hurricane of God’s swift judgment sweeps across the world.

The message of “The Wages of Indifference” is a sobering prophetic wake-up call that resonates deeply with the condition of the Church and society today. In Zephaniah’s time, the people of Jerusalem had become complacent and spiritually lethargic. Having accumulated wealth and enjoyed material comfort, they settled into a life of ease — “settled on their lees” (like undisturbed wine that has become stagnant). They developed a dangerous mindset: believing that God was either inactive or indifferent to their actions. This neutrality led them to ignore repeated warnings from the prophets, continue in sin, and live as though there would be no day of reckoning.
This same spirit of indifference is alarmingly prevalent in our modern world. Many people — including some professing Christians — treat divine warnings about the soon return of Christ, the reality of hell, and the coming judgment with casual disregard. They attend church occasionally, enjoy religious activities, but their hearts are far from God. They are neither hot nor cold; they want the benefits of Christianity without the cost of full commitment. Such double-mindedness produces spiritual instability, quenches the move of the Holy Spirit, and makes one vulnerable to satanic attacks.
For DCLM members and all serious believers, this devotional carries a dual challenge: personal consecration and evangelistic urgency. We cannot afford to be indifferent to holiness, prayer, Bible study, or soul-winning. Indifference is not neutrality — it is silent rebellion against God. The “wages” of this attitude is divine judgment, just as it was for Jerusalem. However, God’s mercy is still available today for those who repent and take a firm stand for righteousness. As watchmen in these last days, we must shake off every form of apathy and passionately warn others while there is still time. True revival begins when indifference is replaced with fervent zeal for the Lord.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I approach Your throne with a humble and contrite heart. Thank You for Your Word that pierces through every layer of self-deception and exposes the danger of spiritual indifference. Today, I repent of every form of lukewarmness, complacency, and apathy that has crept into my life. Forgive me for the times I have been settled on my lees — comfortable with material things while neglecting the urgency of the Gospel and holy living.
Lord, deliver me, my family, and the entire Deeper Christian Life Ministry from the tragedy of double-mindedness. Ignite in us a fresh fire of zeal, passion, and total commitment to You. Remove every spirit of indifference that makes us deaf to Your warnings and slow to obey Your commands. Help us to live with a constant awareness of the coming day of the Lord’s judgment.
Father, stir up Your Church globally. Raise men and women who will not sit on the fence but will boldly declare Your truth in this perverse generation. Give us compassionate hearts to lovingly warn the indifferent souls around us — our neighbours, colleagues, friends, and family members — before it is too late. Let the reality of eternity and the shortness of time propel us into fervent prayer, consistent soul-winning, and uncompromising holiness.
May we never be caught unprepared when Your judgment sweeps across the earth like a mighty hurricane. Help us to build a different world by refusing to be indifferent. Fill us with the Holy Ghost afresh and make us effective instruments in Your hands for revival in our time.
