KEY VERSE
“Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt” (Exodus 3:16).

Bible Reading:
Exodus 3:16-22 (KJV)

16 Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt:
17 And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey.
18 And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.
19 And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand.
20 And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go.
21 And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty.
22 But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.

MESSAGE

Gladys Aylward (1902-1970), was a British domestic servant who felt a strong calling to serve as a missionary in China in the 1930s. Gladys felt a conviction to go to China, despite having limited education and resources. She applied to the China Inland Mission (CIM), but they rejected her, deeming her “unsuitable.” Undeterred, she saved her own money and, in 1932, embarked on a perilous journey by train across Siberia, for she could not afford travel by sea. She arrived in Yangcheng, China, and worked with an elderly missionary, Jeannie Lawson. After Lawson’s death, Gladys took over the mission, becoming known as “Ai-weh-deh” (the virtuous one). She learned the language, adopted Chinese customs, and tirelessly served the local people. Her obedience to God’s calling, resulted in her being able to save many lives and influence many people.

Like Gladys, Moses received instructions from God to go to Pharaoh with His message of deliverance of the Israelites. Six times in this short passage, God used the verb “go” to pass instructions to Moses. Humanly speaking, nothing would have made Moses return of his free will to Egypt, because he was a fugitive from justice. But when God’s call came, Moses chose to obey.

God gave Moses the blueprint of his assignment in Egypt. He was to first gather the elders of Israel and share the plan of God for their deliverance with them. Along with the leaders, he would approach Pharaoh and deliver the same message. The resistance of Pharaoh would be countered by God’s power such that when the Israelites would eventually leave, they would spoil the Egyptians by going with their jewellery and raiment as compensations for their years of servitude.

Just like God sent Moses to Egypt, so He is sending us to the world to share the good news of the cross and deliverance from sin to all and sundry. The assignment is tough and the road may be rough, but God promised to be with us. He was with Moses and other faithful saints of old and He will be with you too today, if you will go and do what He says.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
When God says “go” we need not add a question mark to it

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
Exodus 8-11

COMMENTARY

1. God Calls Ordinary People – The devotional illustrates this through Gladys Aylward, a domestic servant rejected by the mission board, yet used mightily by God. Moses was also an unlikely candidate—a fugitive and a man with a speech impediment. God does not call the qualified; He qualifies the called. When God says “go,” our limitations are not obstacles to Him.

2. Obedience Requires Action – Six times in this passage, God commands Moses to “go.” This repetition emphasizes that obedience is not passive agreement but active movement. God’s instructions demand a response. As the Thought for the Day declares: “When God says ‘go’ we need not add a question mark to it.” Obedience is not negotiation; it is action.

3. God Gives the Blueprint – God did not send Moses without a plan. He told him what to say, to whom to speak, and what would happen. Likewise, God does not call us without guidance. He gives us His Word, His Spirit, and His promises to direct our steps. We are not walking blindly; we have a clear mandate and a sure foundation.

4. Assurance of Victory – God assured Moses that despite Pharaoh’s resistance, the Israelites would leave with great possessions. This teaches us that when we obey God, He goes before us, prepares the way, and ensures our victory. The obstacles we face are not greater than the God who sends us.

5. The DCLM Ministry’s Call to Evangelism – The Deeper Christian Life Ministry was founded on the Great Commission. From its early days, DCLM has emphasized the mandate to “go into all the world and preach the gospel” (Mark 16:15). Pastor Kumuyi’s personal testimony and the ministry’s evangelistic crusades reflect this commitment. The Daily Manna devotional calls believers to take the gospel to their families, communities, and the nations—regardless of the cost.

About DCLM and Daily Manna

The Deeper Christian Life Ministry (DCLM) was founded in 1973 by Pastor Dr. W.F. Kumuyi. From a small Bible study of 15 students in Lagos, it has grown into a global ministry with churches across Nigeria, Africa, and beyond. The ministry emphasizes holiness, prayer, Bible study, and active evangelism.

DCLM Daily Manna is a daily devotional written by Pastor Kumuyi. Each edition provides Scripture reading, exposition, and practical application to guide believers in their daily walk with God. The devotional consistently calls readers to respond to God’s call with immediate and active obedience.

Prayer Reflection
Lord, when You say “go,” help me to obey without hesitation. Remove every fear, excuse, and doubt that holds me back. Give me the courage of Gladys Aylward and the obedience of Moses. I trust that You will go before me, provide the blueprint, and ensure the victory. Here am I, send me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
