DCLM Daily Manna – A Pivotal Moment
Monday, August 10, 2026.

KEY VERSE
“And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God” (Acts 10:4).
Bible Reading:
Acts 10:1-8 (KJV)
1 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
7 And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
8 And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
MESSAGE
Jack Wugman was walking down the beach one day. He saw an unusual glass bottle. He bent over and picked up the bottle. His life would be forever changed. There was a note inside, from a man named Singer, who invented and perfected the sewing machine. Singer penned a note, WHOEVER FINDS THIS BOTTLE SHALL INHERIT MY WHOLE ESTATE. The judge validated the note, and Jack inherited millions of dollars from a man he had never met. What if Jack never picked up the bottle? It definitely was a pivotal moment in Wugman’s life.
Not everyone reading this today has a bottle floating out there with a million-dollar inheritance, no. But there are pivotal moments God has set for each of our lives. A life-changing moment that is not orchestrated by man, nor induced by any goodness or nobility any of us may have in our history. Cornelius was said to be a devout man who gave alms to support people. He was not an Israelite, but a Roman soldier, a gentile, outside of the commonwealth of Israel. Being a centurion means he was a leader over 100 men. An angel was sent to him by God to acknowledge his devoutness and alms giving. Knowing that that wasn’t enough, he was directed to invite Apostle Peter to expound to him the gospel requirements for salvation more perfectly.
The text highlights the significance of understanding Cornelius’s character as the key to his esteemed relationship with God, which transcended his position as a centurion. Despite his military rank and prestige, Cornelius’s true legacy lay in his love for the Lord and his generosity. His devout lifestyle inspired others, yet it was emphasised that neither good deeds nor religious piety can secure salvation; faith in the Gospel is essential. The angel’s visit to Cornelius was not intended to preach the Gospel, as it is divinely decreed that those who have experienced salvation share the Gospel message, underscoring that salvation is a matter of grace through faith, not works.
The main lesson here is the need to impact the world with our resources. We are remembered for what we do for others. God has left a far more valuable treasure for us than whatever was promised by Mr. Singer in our introduction. God wants to use us to tell other people about this treasure. We need to urgently preach Christ to our neighbours. He is the only way to eternal life.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
He who shuns the offer of salvation makes vain the sacrifice of Christ

COMMENTARY
1. Pivotal Moments from God – Cornelius experienced a divine encounter that changed his life forever. An angel appeared to him and directed him to Peter. This was not random; it was a pivotal moment orchestrated by God. In our lives, God also brings pivotal moments—often through people, circumstances, or His Word. We must be sensitive to recognize and respond to them.
2. Devotion Without Salvation Is Insufficient – Cornelius was a devout man who prayed and gave alms generously. He feared God and had a good reputation. Yet, with all his devotion, he still needed the gospel. This is a crucial truth: good works and religious devotion cannot save. Only faith in Jesus Christ brings salvation. Cornelius’s piety was commendable, but it was not enough.
3. The Gospel Requires a Messenger – The angel did not preach the gospel to Cornelius. He was sent to direct him to Peter, a human messenger. This underscores God’s design for believers to share the gospel. Angels are not the primary agents of salvation; we are. We have a responsibility to share Christ with those who are seeking.
4. Our Resources as Instruments of Impact – Cornelius was remembered for his generosity and prayers. His alms came up as a memorial before God. This teaches us that how we use our resources matters. God sees our generosity and prayers. They are not in vain. They can even open doors for divine intervention.
5. The DCLM Ministry’s Call to Evangelism – The Deeper Christian Life Ministry emphasizes that salvation is by grace through faith, not works. Pastor Kumuyi teaches that believers must be active in sharing the gospel. The Daily Manna devotional calls readers to recognize pivotal moments and to be used by God to bring others to Christ.

Prayer Reflection
Lord, open my eyes to recognize the pivotal moments You set before me. Help me to be sensitive to Your leading and responsive to Your call. Thank You that salvation is by grace through faith. Use me to share this message with others. May my prayers and generosity be a memorial before You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
