MBUMA Jani, an elderly woman in Eastern Zimbabwe, stunned her neighbours a few years ago when she announced her death and proceeded to conduct her funeral.
Large numbers of mourners from far and near turned up at the woman’s house, but were shocked and angered to find the “dead” woman at the door welcoming them to her home.
She had organized the funeral complete with all prerequisites for such occasions in order to experience her own death. She said “A large number of people are dying these days and you never know when it’s your turn. I shall hold these ceremonies every year of my life from now on.” What a way of dealing with the fear of death!
I have conducted many funerals and I notice each time the hushed tones, the ‘can’t-hurt-a-fly’ attitude of those that attend such funerals. People fear and generally attach a vehement mystery to the dead.
I once noticed a mad man who jumped out of the way as a car was about to hit him. Even mad people don’t want to die. But as people of God (who believe in life after death), death
should be like a servant and not a master. The fear of death and not the fear of God to millions of people is the beginning of wisdom.
The word “DEATH” alone conjures images of fear
and uncertainty. In this year 2023, have hope in the life beyond! Live with DAILY COURAGE and FAITH in God! Death is an ordinary messenger which will be sent to take you to a better and more excellent country, whose builder and founder is not George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay or James Madison (The 7 founding fathers of the USA), but Jehovah God.
Plan your life with eternity in mind! Write a WILL if possible, organize your home and serve your God with all your might! Close with this: Death is the last chapter of time, but the first in eternity.
