TOPIC: THE BETHLEHEM’S CHURCH: VISITORS MUST BEND TO ENTER!

Over the centuries, the entrance to the Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity in Palestine, has twice been made smaller. The purpose in the last case was to keep thieves from entering the cathedral on horseback. But it’s now referred to as the “Door of Humility,” because visitors must bend down to enter. Amazing! There are several examples in the Bible where God exemplifies humility by bending down. In Genesis 2:7, God had to bend down to form Man from the dust of the earth. Also, the LORD Jesus took upon Him the form of a Man and humbled Himself by bending down and entering into the womb of Mary. On another occasion, Jesus bent down and washed His disciples’ feet. That’s why Jesus told His disciples that whosoever will be great, should first of all humble himself (bend) and become a servant. Then He echoed in Matthew 16:24: “Then said Jesus unto His disciples, ‘If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” The act of denying oneself, involves bending low to accept pain, mockery, humiliation etc, for the sake of Christ. In the physical realm, some people undergo knee replacement surgery to avoid years of increasingly painful joint damage! THE WAY UP IS DOWN! You must never forget that as you go out daily! Someone has said: ‘Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less!’ Close with this: “There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.” (Anonymous). Just like the Bethlehem Church where YOU HAVE TO BEND TO ENTER, do all you can to BEND DAILY! Be humble as you go out today/daily!
