10 Days of Prayer & Fasting: Babies Born Alive but Left to Die
On Wednesday night, the Canberra Declaration officially launched our prayer campaign for babies born alive and left to die after an abortion.
We were honoured to have 10 special guest speakers, including the Hon Llew O’Brien MP for Wide Bay, Queensland.
Mr O’Brien is scheduled to introduce the Human Rights (Children Born Alive Protection) Bill 2026 into federal parliament on Monday, 17 August. During the official prayer launch Llew revealed:
“These little people are exactly that. They are little human beings, created in the image of God. And they are the most vulnerable people.
“As a Christian I have a duty to look after them.
“I was a policeman before I entered parliament. Going into that job, I swore on a Bible that I would protect life. That oath doesn’t end with the police.
“This bill… imposes a duty on medical professionals to give the appropriate care to babies who are born alive. There is a definite need for this, sadly.”

The vast majority of Australians support the idea that babies born alive as a result of abortion must be given medical care just like any other child (70% in a Victorian Poll in 2023). But this bill will only succeed as more Australians become aware of it and advocate for these smallest of human beings.

Let’s be honest: Australia is a nation of savages. We allow babies to be born alive during an abortion and then left to die. We call it healthcare. We call it choice. We call it anything but what it is: infanticide.
The article from The Daily Declaration is a call to action. The Human Rights (Children Born Alive Protection) Bill 2026 is being introduced into federal parliament on 17 August. It imposes a duty on medical professionals to give appropriate care to babies born alive. It is a simple, commonsense measure. And it has failed twice before.
The campaign begins with 10 days of prayer and fasting, starting Monday 10 August. There will be nightly Zoom prayer meetings and daily devotionals from pro-life leaders. The goal is to shift the culture and the politics. To make Australians aware of the horror. To pressure politicians to act.
Llew O’Brien MP, a former policeman, swore on a Bible to protect life. That oath, he says, doesn’t end with the police. He is introducing the bill because he has a duty to look after the most vulnerable.
The comment section is raw. Maryse Usher describes the brutal reality of late-term abortion: babies are born alive and left to die alone. “We are a nation of savages and barbarians,” she writes, “most of them in our Parliaments.”
She is right.
70% of Australians support giving medical care to babies born alive. But the bill has failed twice. Why? Because the pro-abortion lobby is powerful. Because politicians are afraid. Because the church has been silent.
But the church is waking up. The prayer campaign is a start. The bill is an opportunity. And the slide for churches is a simple way to raise awareness.
So here is the challenge: join the prayer campaign. Sign up for the devotionals. Attend the Zoom meetings. Share the slide. Contact your MP. And refuse to be silent while babies are left to die.
A nation that kills its children has no future. And a church that stays silent is complicit.
