-
But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass as it is this day, to save much people alive.

BASIC SCRIPTURE: PSALM 57:1-6 (KJV)
-
Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.
-
I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me.
-
He shall send from heaven, and save me from the reproach of him that would swallow me up. Selah. God shall send forth his mercy and his truth.
-
My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.
-
Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be above all the earth.
-
They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down: they have digged a pit before me, into the midst whereof they are fallen themselves. Selah.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — FRIDAY, 23RD OCTOBER 2026
Key Verse (Genesis): Genesis 50:20 — “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass as it is this day, to save much people alive.”
Key Verse (Psalm): Psalm 57:1 — “Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.”
Am I in the Place of God? (Genesis 50:19):
Joseph’s brothers were afraid. Their father Jacob was dead. They feared that Joseph would now take revenge for all the evil they had done to him. They feared that he would repay them for selling him into slavery. They feared that he would punish them for the years of suffering he had endured. They fell before him and said, “Behold, we be thy servants.” But Joseph wept. He wept because they did not understand. They did not understand his heart. They did not understand his forgiveness. They did not understand his grace. He said to them, “Fear not: for am I in the place of God?” Joseph knew his place. He was not God. He was not the judge. He was not the avenger. He was not the one who repays. He knew that vengeance belongs to God. He knew that judgment belongs to God. He knew that justice belongs to God. And he would not take the place of God.
You Thought Evil, God Meant It For Good (Genesis 50:20):
Joseph then gave one of the most powerful statements in Scripture. “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass as it is this day, to save much people alive.” His brothers had evil intentions. They wanted to harm him. They wanted to destroy him. They wanted to get rid of him. They sold him into slavery. They thought they had ended his dreams. They thought they had destroyed his destiny. They thought they had killed his future. But God had other plans. God was working behind the scenes. God was working through their wickedness. God was working all things together for good. What they meant for evil, God meant for good. What they intended for destruction, God intended for deliverance. What they planned for harm, God planned for salvation. Joseph was sold into slavery. But he became the Prime Minister of Egypt. He was imprisoned. But he was elevated. He was forgotten. But he was remembered. He was humbled. But he was exalted. And through his elevation, he saved his family. He saved Egypt. He saved many people. The evil of his brothers became the channel of God’s blessing.
Fear Not, I Will Nourish You (Genesis 50:21):
Joseph did not stop at forgiveness. He went further. He promised to provide for them. He promised to take care of them. He promised to nourish them. He promised to care for their little ones. He comforted them. He spoke kindly unto them. He did not just forgive. He restored. He did not just pardon. He provided. He did not just let them go. He embraced them. This is the heart of true forgiveness. It is not enough to say, “I forgive you.” It is not enough to release the offence. It is not enough to let go of the anger. True forgiveness goes further. It restores the relationship. It seeks the welfare of the offender. It provides for their needs. It speaks kindly to them. It comforts them. It loves them.
Be Merciful Unto Me, O God (Psalm 57:1):
David cries out for mercy. He cries out for grace. He cries out for compassion. He is in distress. He is in danger. He is in trouble. He is being hunted by Saul. He is hiding in a cave. He is surrounded by enemies. He is facing calamity. And he cries out to God. He cries out for mercy. He cries out for help. He cries out for deliverance. He declares, “My soul trusteth in thee.” He trusts in God. He relies on God. He depends on God. He hopes in God. He believes in God. And he makes his refuge in the shadow of God’s wings. He hides under the wings of the Almighty. He finds shelter under the wings of the Most High. He finds protection under the wings of the Lord. He finds safety under the wings of God. He will abide there until the calamities be overpast. He will wait there until the storm passes. He will remain there until the danger is gone.
I Will Cry Unto God Most High (Psalm 57:2-3):
David makes a decision. He will cry unto God. He will pray. He will call. He will petition. He will intercede. He will cry unto God most high. Not just God. God most high. The God who is above all. The God who rules over all. The God who is sovereign over all. The God who performs all things for him. The God who works all things together for his good. The God who accomplishes his purpose in his life. And what will God do? He shall send from heaven and save him. He shall send from above and deliver him. He shall send from on high and rescue him. He shall send from the throne and protect him. He shall send from the courts and vindicate him. He shall save him from the reproach of him that would swallow him up. He shall send forth His mercy and His truth. Mercy to forgive. Mercy to heal. Mercy to restore. Mercy to deliver. Truth to guide. Truth to protect. Truth to defend. Truth to vindicate.
My Soul Is Among Lions (Psalm 57:4):
David describes his situation. His soul is among lions. He is surrounded by predators. He is surrounded by enemies. He is surrounded by those who want to destroy him. He lies among them that are set on fire. They are burning with rage. They are burning with hatred. They are burning with malice. They are burning with violence. They are the sons of men. They are human. But they act like beasts. Their teeth are spears and arrows. Their words are weapons. Their tongues are sharp swords. They wound with their words. They kill with their speech. They destroy with their tongues.
Be Thou Exalted, O God (Psalm 57:5):
In the midst of his trouble, David worships. He does not focus on his enemies. He does not focus on his pain. He does not focus on his fear. He focuses on God. He exalts God. He magnifies God. He lifts up God. He declares, “Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be above all the earth.” He wants God to be exalted. He wants God to be glorified. He wants God to be honoured. He wants God to be praised. Even in the cave. Even in the danger. Even in the distress. He worships. He praises. He exalts. He glorifies.
They Have Prepared a Net (Psalm 57:6):
David describes the plans of his enemies. They have prepared a net for his steps. They have set a trap. They have laid a snare. They have dug a pit. They want to catch him. They want to trap him. They want to destroy him. They want to bring him down. They want to bury him. But David declares the outcome. They have fallen into the midst of it themselves. Their own trap catches them. Their own snare entangles them. Their own pit swallows them. They plotted evil. They planned destruction. They designed his downfall. But they fell into their own trap. They were caught in their own snare. They were buried in their own pit.
The Lesson for Us:
Do not take the place of God. Do not take vengeance. Trust His sovereignty. Trust His justice. Trust His timing. Even when others mean evil against you, God means it for good. Even when you are surrounded by lions, God is with you. Even when they prepare a net for your steps, God will deliver you. Even when they dig a pit for you, they will fall into it themselves. Cry out to God. Trust in His mercy. Take refuge in the shadow of His wings. He will send from heaven and save you. He will send forth His mercy and His truth. He will perform all things for you. He will work all things together for your good. And He will be exalted above the heavens. His glory will be above all the earth. Even in your trouble. Even in your trial. Even in your distress. God will be glorified. God will be exalted. God will be praised.
Question for the Day — Friday, 23rd October 2026:
Have you been wronged? Have you been surrounded by enemies? Have you been trapped by the plans of the wicked? Do not take the place of God. Trust His sovereignty. Take refuge in the shadow of His wings. Cry out to Him. He will send from heaven and save you. He will send forth His mercy and His truth. And your enemies will fall into their own pit.
