BASIC SCRIPTURES: JUDGES 6:11-16; 2 CORINTHIANS 5:14-17

BASIC SCRIPTURE: SATURDAY, 3RD OCTOBER 2026 — JUDGES 6:11-16 (KJV)

  1. And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.

  2. And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.

  3. And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.

  4. And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?

  5. And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.

  6. And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.

BASIC SCRIPTURE: 2 CORINTHIANS 5:14-17 (KJV)

  1. For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

  2. And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

  3. Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.

  4. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

PRAYER POINTS — SATURDAY, 3RD OCTOBER 2026

  1. Father, let the angel of the LORD appear to me as he appeared to Gideon. Let me hear Your voice and receive Your commission.

  2. Lord, call me a mighty man of valour even when I feel weak and insignificant. Let me see myself as You see me.

  3. Father, forgive me for every time I have doubted Your presence and Your miracles. Let me not accuse You of forsaking me.

  4. Lord, let me go in this my might. Let me save others from the hand of the enemy. Have not You sent me?

  5. Father, when I feel inadequate and small, remind me that You are with me. Let me not focus on my weakness but on Your strength.

  6. Lord, let Your love constrain me. Let me not live unto myself but unto Him who died for me and rose again.

  7. Father, let me know no man after the flesh. Let me see others through Your eyes and love them with Your love.

  8. Lord, I am a new creature in Christ. Old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — SATURDAY, 3RD OCTOBER 2026

Key Verse (Judges): Judges 6:12 — “And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.”

Key Verse (2 Corinthians): 2 Corinthians 5:17 — “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

Gideon’s Hiding (Judges 6:11):

Gideon was hiding. He was threshing wheat by the winepress. He was hiding from the Midianites. He was afraid. He was in fear. He was in hiding. He was in a place of fear and obscurity. He was not a warrior. He was not a leader. He was not a hero. He was a farmer. He was a nobody. He was the least in his father’s house. He was from a poor family. He was insignificant. He was overlooked. He was forgotten. But God saw him. God knew him. God called him.

The Angel’s Greeting (Judges 6:12):

The angel of the LORD appeared to Gideon. He said, “The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.” This is a shocking greeting. Gideon was not a mighty man of valour. He was a frightened farmer hiding in a winepress. He was not brave. He was not courageous. He was not strong. But God called him what he would become. God called him what he was in God’s eyes. God called him what he would be by God’s grace. God saw his potential. God saw his future. God saw his destiny. He was a mighty man of valour — not yet in himself, but in God.

Gideon’s Doubt (Judges 6:13):

Gideon responded with doubt. He said, “If the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us?” He questioned God’s presence. He questioned God’s faithfulness. He questioned God’s miracles. He said, “The LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.” He was discouraged. He was disappointed. He was disillusioned. He had heard the stories of God’s mighty works in the past. He had heard of the deliverance from Egypt. He had heard of the miracles of Moses and Joshua. But he had not seen them. He had not experienced them. He was living in a time of oppression and defeat.

Go in This Thy Might (Judges 6:14):

The LORD did not answer Gideon’s complaint. He did not explain the situation. He did not justify Himself. He gave a command. “Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?” Go. Go in this thy might. What might? Gideon had no might. He had no strength. He had no power. He had no army. He had no resources. But God said, “Go in this thy might.” The might was not Gideon’s. It was God’s. It was the might of the call. It was the might of the commission. It was the might of the presence of God. God said, “Have not I sent thee?” The sending was the might. The commission was the strength. The presence was the power.

Gideon’s Inadequacy (Judges 6:15):

Gideon still hesitated. He said, “Wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.” He focused on his inadequacy. He focused on his poverty. He focused on his insignificance. He focused on his weakness. He focused on his limitations. He focused on himself. He could not see how he could save Israel. He could not see how he could defeat the Midianites. He could not see how he could be a deliverer.

I Will Be with Thee (Judges 6:16):

God did not address Gideon’s inadequacy. He did not address his poverty. He did not address his insignificance. He addressed the real issue. “Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.” The presence of God was the answer. The presence of God was the solution. The presence of God was the power. The presence of God was the victory. With God, Gideon would defeat the Midianites. With God, he would smite them as one man. With God, he would be a mighty man of valour.

The Love of Christ Constrains (2 Corinthians 5:14-15):

Paul speaks of the love of Christ. It constrains him. It compels him. It controls him. It drives him. It motivates him. He lives for Christ. He does not live for himself. He lives for the one who died for him and rose again. The love of Christ is the motivation. The love of Christ is the power. The love of Christ is the reason. We do not live for ourselves. We live for Christ. We live for His glory. We live for His kingdom. We live for His purpose.

A New Creature (2 Corinthians 5:17):

If any man is in Christ, he is a new creature. He is a new creation. He is a new person. He is not the same. He has been transformed. He has been changed. He has been made new. Old things are passed away. Old things are gone. Old things are finished. Old things are ended. Behold, all things are become new. New life. New heart. New spirit. New purpose. New destiny. New future. New hope. New joy. New peace. New identity. New nature. New creation. In Christ, everything is new.

Question for the Day — Saturday, 3rd October 2026:

Are you hiding in fear like Gideon? Has God called you a mighty man of valour? Are you doubting His presence and His miracles? Will you go in this your might, knowing that He has sent you? And are you living as a new creature in Christ?
