BASIC SCRIPTURE: PSALM 119:41-48 (KJV)

Let thy mercies come also unto me, O LORD, even thy salvation, according to thy word.

So shall I have wherewith to answer him that reproacheth me: for I trust in thy word.

And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth; for I have hoped in thy judgments.

So shall I keep thy law continually for ever and ever.

And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.

I will speak of thy testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed.

And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.

My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes.

PRAYER POINTS

Father, let Your mercies come unto me, even Your salvation, according to Your word.

Let Thy Mercies Come (Verse 41):
The psalmist begins with a plea for mercy. He asks for God’s mercy and salvation. He asks for them according to God’s word. He is not asking for something God has not promised. He is asking for what God has already promised. He is standing on the word. He is claiming the promise. He is trusting the character of God.
An Answer for the Reproacher (Verse 42):
The psalmist desires to have an answer for those who reproach him. He faces mockers and accusers. They doubt his faith. They challenge his God. They question his hope. But he trusts in God’s word. His trust gives him an answer. His faith gives him a defense. His hope gives him a testimony. He is not silenced by the reproach. He is strengthened by the word.
Take Not the Word of Truth Out of My Mouth (Verse 43):
This is a powerful prayer. “Take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth.” He does not want to be silenced. He does not want to become a coward. He does not want to lose his testimony. He wants to keep speaking truth. He wants to keep declaring God’s word. He wants to keep being a witness. He hopes in God’s judgments. He trusts in God’s ways. He believes in God’s goodness. He does not want to stop speaking.
I Will Keep Thy Law Continually (Verse 44):
The psalmist commits himself to obedience. Not occasional obedience. Not convenient obedience. Continual obedience. Forever and ever. Not just for a season. Not just when it is easy. He is determined. He is resolved. He is committed. He will keep God’s law. Not perfectly. But persistently. Not sinlessly. But sincerely.
Walk at Liberty (Verse 45):
This is the result of seeking God’s precepts. Liberty. Freedom. Freedom from sin. Freedom from guilt. Freedom from fear. Freedom from bondage. Freedom from condemnation. Freedom from the law. Freedom from the world. Freedom from the flesh. Freedom from the devil. The one who seeks God’s precepts walks at liberty. The one who loves God’s word is free. The one who obeys God’s commands is free. True freedom is found in obedience. True freedom is found in the word.
I Will Speak of Thy Testimonies Before Kings (Verse 46):
The psalmist is bold. He will speak of God’s testimonies before kings. Not just before friends. Not just before believers. Before kings. Before the powerful. Before the influential. Before the elite. He will not be ashamed. He will not be intimidated. He will not be silenced. He will be a witness. He will be a testimony. He will be a voice for God.
Delight in Thy Commandments (Verse 47):
The psalmist delights in God’s commandments. He does not just obey them. He delights in them. He loves them. They are not a burden. They are a joy. They are not a restriction. They are a liberation. They are not a heavy yoke. They are a delightful way. His heart is in the word. His joy is in the word. His life is in the word.
My Hands Also Will I Lift Up (Verse 48):
The psalmist lifts up his hands to God’s commandments. This is a gesture of worship. It is a gesture of surrender. It is a gesture of praise. He lifts his hands in devotion. He lifts his hands in love. He lifts his hands in submission. And he will meditate in God’s statutes. He will think about them. He will ponder them. He will reflect on them. He will internalize them. He will live them.
