BASIC SCRIPTURE: JOSHUA 1:1-9

BASIC SCRIPTURE: FRIDAY, 11TH SEPTEMBER 2026 — JOSHUA 1:1-9 (KJV)

  1. Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying,

  2. Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.

  3. Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

  4. From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.

  5. There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

  6. Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

  7. Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.

  8. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

  9. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — FRIDAY, 11TH SEPTEMBER 2026

Key Verse: Joshua 1:9 — “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

Moses Is Dead (Verse 1-2):

Moses died. He was the greatest leader Israel had ever known. He had delivered them from Egypt. He had given them the law. He had led them for forty years. He had brought them to the border of the Promised Land. And now he was dead. His season was over. He was a great servant. But he was a servant. He was not the Lord. He was not the promise. He was not the land. His death was not the end of God’s plan. It was the beginning of a new season. God said, “Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise.” The death of one leader is the rise of another. The end of one season is the beginning of another. The past is past. The future is now.

Arise and Go Over (Verse 2):

God commanded Joshua to arise. To stand up. To get up. To take action. To leave the past behind. To move forward. To cross the Jordan. To enter the land. To possess the inheritance. The mourning was over. The preparation was over. The waiting was over. It was time to move. It was time to advance. It was time to possess. The promise was waiting. The land was waiting. The victory was waiting. Joshua had to arise and go over.

Every Place Your Foot Shall Tread (Verse 3):

God gave Joshua a promise. Every place that the sole of his foot would tread upon, God had given him. It was not just a promise. It was a command. He had to walk. He had to step. He had to advance. He had to possess. The land was given, but it had to be taken. The promise was made, but it had to be claimed. Every step of faith would bring a new possession. Every step of obedience would bring a new territory. The land was as big as his faith. The inheritance was as large as his obedience.

No Man Shall Stand Before Thee (Verse 5):

God promised Joshua that no man would be able to stand before him. The enemies would fall. The giants would be defeated. The walls would come down. The obstacles would be removed. The battles would be won. The victory would be complete. And God would be with him. As He was with Moses, He would be with Joshua. He would not fail him. He would not forsake him. He would not abandon him. He would not leave him. He would be with him always.

Be Strong and of Good Courage (Verses 6-7):

God repeated the command three times. “Be strong and of a good courage.” It was not a suggestion. It was a command. It was not optional. It was essential. Joshua needed courage. He needed strength. He needed boldness. He needed determination. He needed to be strong in the Lord. He needed to be courageous in the face of the enemy. He needed to be resolute in the face of obstacles. He needed to be confident in the face of giants. And the courage was tied to obedience. “Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law.” Courage is not just bravery. It is obedience. It is doing what God commands. It is walking in His ways. It is not turning to the right hand or to the left.

This Book of the Law Shall Not Depart (Verse 8):

Joshua was commanded to keep the word before him. It was not to depart out of his mouth. He was to meditate in it day and night. He was to speak it. He was to think about it. He was to dwell on it. He was to let it shape his thoughts. He was to let it guide his actions. He was to let it determine his decisions. He was to observe to do all that was written in it. Then he would make his way prosperous. Then he would have good success. The key to prosperity was obedience. The key to success was meditation. The key to victory was the word.

Have Not I Commanded Thee? (Verse 9):

God ended with a question. “Have not I commanded thee?” It was a reminder. It was a confirmation. It was a reassurance. God had spoken. God had commanded. God had promised. God had given His word. And His word was enough. It was sufficient. It was certain. It was secure. Joshua could trust it. He could rely on it. He could stand on it. He could act on it. He could believe it. He could obey it. And God would be with him. Whithersoever he went. Wherever he went. Whatever he faced. Whoever he fought. God would be with him.

Question for the Day — Friday, 11th September 2026:

Is there a Moses that needs to die in your life? A past season that needs to end? A Jordan that needs to be crossed? Are you arising and going over? Are you being strong and of good courage? And are you meditating on the word day and night?
