BASIC SCRIPTURE: LUKE 10: 1-19

BASIC SCRIPTURE: SATURDAY, 12TH SEPTEMBER 2026 — LUKE 10:1-19 (KJV)

  1. After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.

  2. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

  3. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.

  4. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.

  5. And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.

  6. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.

  7. And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.

  8. And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:

  9. And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.

  10. But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,

  11. Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.

  12. But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.

  13. Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

  14. But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.

  15. And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.

  16. He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.

  17. And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

  18. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

  19. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — SATURDAY, 12TH SEPTEMBER 2026

Key Verse: Luke 10:19 — “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

The Appointment (Verse 1):

Jesus appointed seventy others. He sent them out. He sent them two by two. He sent them ahead of Him. He sent them to every city and place He would visit. They were His advance team. They were His forerunners. They were His messengers. They were His witnesses. They were to prepare the way. They were to announce His coming. They were to demonstrate His power.

The Harvest and the Labourers (Verse 2):

Jesus spoke of a great harvest. It was plentiful. It was ready. It was waiting. But the labourers were few. The workers were scarce. The harvest was not the problem. The problem was the workers. Jesus told them to pray. They were to pray to the Lord of the harvest. They were to ask Him to send labourers. They were to pray for more workers. They were to be part of the answer to their own prayer.

Lambs Among Wolves (Verse 3):

Jesus sent them out as lambs among wolves. It was a dangerous mission. It was a vulnerable mission. It was a risky mission. They would be surrounded by enemies. They would be opposed. They would be persecuted. They would be hated. They would be hunted. They would be attacked. But they were to go. They were to trust. They were to be harmless as doves. They were to be wise as serpents. They were to go as lambs.

No Purse, No Scrip, No Shoes (Verse 4):

They were to carry nothing. No money. No bag. No extra shoes. They were to travel light. They were to trust in God’s provision. They were to depend on the hospitality of others. They were to be free from material concerns. They were to be focused on the mission. They were not to be distracted by possessions. They were not to be weighed down by luggage.

Peace to This House (Verses 5-6):

When they entered a house, they were to greet it with peace. They were to speak peace. They were to offer peace. If the house was worthy, the peace would rest upon it. If it was not, the peace would return to them. The peace was not wasted. It was not lost. It came back to them. They were to be peacemakers. They were to be carriers of peace.

The Labourer Is Worthy of His Hire (Verse 7):

They were to stay in one house. They were not to go from house to house. They were to receive what was given to them. They were to eat and drink what was set before them. They were to receive support. They were to accept hospitality. They were to be worthy of their hire. They were to receive the reward of their labour.

Heal the Sick and Proclaim the Kingdom (Verses 8-9):

They were to heal the sick. They were to demonstrate the power of God. They were to show compassion. They were to bring healing. They were to proclaim the kingdom. They were to announce that the kingdom of God was near. They were to bring the presence of the King. They were to bring the reign of God.

Shake Off the Dust (Verses 10-12):

If they were not received, they were to go out into the streets. They were to wipe off the dust of that city. They were to testify against it. They were to declare that the kingdom of God had come near. They were to pronounce judgment. It would be more tolerable for Sodom than for that city. Rejection has consequences.

Woe to the Unrepentant (Verses 13-15):

Jesus pronounced woes on Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum. These cities had seen His mighty works. They had witnessed His miracles. They had heard His teaching. They had experienced His power. But they did not repent. They did not turn to God. They did not believe. Tyre and Sidon would have repented if they had seen such works. Capernaum was exalted to heaven but would be thrust down to hell. Privilege brings responsibility. Opportunity brings accountability.

The Devils Are Subject (Verses 17-19):

The seventy returned with joy. They were excited. They were amazed. They said, “Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.” They had seen the power of God. They had cast out demons. They had defeated the enemy. Jesus responded. “I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.” He had seen the enemy’s defeat. He gave them power. They would tread on serpents and scorpions. They would have power over all the power of the enemy. And nothing would hurt them.

Question for the Day — Saturday, 12th September 2026:

Are you a labourer in the harvest? Are you going as a lamb among wolves? Are you trusting in God’s provision? Are you bringing peace and healing? And are you exercising the power Jesus gives you over the enemy?
