BASIC SCRIPTURE: ISAIAH 40:12-31

BASIC SCRIPTURE: SUNDAY, 13TH SEPTEMBER 2026 — ISAIAH 40:12-31 (KJV)

  1. Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?

  2. Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him?

  3. With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?

  4. Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.

  5. And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.

  6. All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.

  7. To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?

  8. The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains.

  9. He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved.

  10. Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?

  11. It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

  12. That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.

  13. Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.

  14. To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.

  15. Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.

  16. Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?

  17. Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

  18. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

  19. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

  20. But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

PRAYER POINTS — SUNDAY, 13TH SEPTEMBER 2026

  1. Father, I lift up my eyes on high and behold who created the heavens. You call the stars by name and not one fails.

  2. Lord, I thank You that You are the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. You do not faint, and You are not weary.

  3. Father, forgive me for every time I have said, “My way is hid from the LORD.” I repent of thinking You have forgotten me.

  4. Lord, I receive the truth that You give power to the faint and increase strength to those who have no might.

  5. Father, I confess that the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall. My strength is not in my youth; my strength is in waiting on You.

  6. Lord, I wait upon You. Renew my strength. Let me mount up with wings as an eagle.

  7. Father, let me run and not be weary. Let me walk and not faint.

  8. Lord, I thank You that You are incomparable. There is none like You. I will not liken You to anything in heaven or earth.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — SUNDAY, 13TH SEPTEMBER 2026

Key Verse: Isaiah 40:31 — “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

The Incomparable God (Verses 12-14):

Isaiah asks a series of rhetorical questions. Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand? Who has meted out heaven with a span? Who has comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure? Who has weighed the mountains in scales? Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord? Who has taught Him? Who has counselled Him? The answer is obvious. No one. No one can compare to God. No one can measure His power. No one can understand His wisdom. No one can instruct His Spirit. He is beyond all. He is above all. He is before all. He is over all.

The Nations Are Nothing (Verses 15-17):

The nations are a drop in a bucket. They are as the small dust of the balance. The isles are a very little thing. Lebanon’s forests are not enough for a burnt offering. All nations before Him are as nothing. They are counted less than nothing. They are vanity. Human power is insignificant. Human glory is fleeting. Human achievement is empty. God is the only one who matters.

Idols Are Useless (Verses 18-20):

Isaiah contrasts God with idols. Who can compare to God? What image can represent Him? The workman melts a graven image. The goldsmith overlays it with gold. The poor man chooses a tree that will not rot. He seeks a cunning workman. He makes an idol that will not fall. Idols are made by human hands. Idols are made of earthly materials. Idols are powerless. They cannot speak. They cannot hear. They cannot move. They cannot save. They cannot compare to God.

The Greatness of God (Verses 21-26):

Isaiah calls on Israel to remember. Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told from the beginning? Do you not understand? God sits upon the circle of the earth. The inhabitants are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a curtain. He spreads them out like a tent. He brings princes to nothing. He makes judges as vanity. He blows on them, and they wither. The whirlwind takes them away as stubble. To whom will you liken Him? Lift up your eyes on high. Behold the stars. He created them. He calls them by name. He is strong in power. Not one fails.

God’s Care for His People (Verses 27-31):

Israel complained. “My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God.” They thought God had forgotten them. They thought He had abandoned them. They thought He was ignoring them. But God asks, “Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard?” He is the everlasting God. He is the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint. He is not weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint. He increases strength to the weak. Even the youths shall faint and be weary. The young men shall utterly fall. But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint.

Waiting on the Lord:

Waiting is not passive. It is active trust. It is confident expectation. It is patient endurance. It is humble submission. It is faithful perseverance. It is hopeful anticipation. Those who wait on the Lord renew their strength. They are lifted up. They soar above the storms. They run without exhaustion. They walk without fainting. The strength comes from God. It does not come from self. It is not generated by effort. It is received by faith. It is released by waiting.

Question for the Day — Sunday, 13th September 2026:

Do you trust in the incomparable God? Do you lift up your eyes on high? Do you believe that He gives power to the faint? Are you waiting on the Lord? And is your strength being renewed?
