BASIC SCRIPTURE: PSALM 1: 1-6

BASIC SCRIPTURE: MONDAY, 14TH SEPTEMBER 2026 — PSALM 1:1-6 (KJV)

  1. Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

  2. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

  3. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

  4. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

  5. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

  6. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — MONDAY, 14TH SEPTEMBER 2026

Key Verse: Psalm 1:3 — “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

The Three Warnings (Verse 1):

The psalm begins with a warning. Blessed is the man who does not do three things. First, walk in the counsel of the ungodly. The ungodly give advice. They offer counsel. They have opinions. They have wisdom. But their wisdom is not from God. It leads to destruction. It leads to sin. It leads to death. The blessed man does not walk in their counsel. He does not follow their advice. He does not adopt their worldview.

Second, stand in the way of sinners. Sinners have a way. They have a pattern. They have a lifestyle. They have habits. They have practices. They are on a path. The blessed man does not stand in that way. He does not linger. He does not pause. He does not hesitate. He does not settle. He does not join them. He does not become comfortable. He moves on. He passes by.

Third, sit in the seat of the scornful. The scornful are mockers. They are cynical. They are critical. They are scoffers. They ridicule what is holy. They mock what is true. They despise what is good. They reject what is right. The blessed man does not sit with them. He does not settle in their company. He does not adopt their attitude. He does not become like them. He rejects their mockery. He refuses their cynicism.

The Positive Commitment (Verse 2):

The blessed man does not just avoid evil. He pursues good. His delight is in the law of the Lord. He loves God’s Word. He finds joy in it. He finds satisfaction in it. He finds nourishment in it. He finds direction in it. He finds wisdom in it. He finds life in it. And he meditates on it day and night. He thinks about it. He reflects on it. He ponders it. He studies it. He memorizes it. He applies it. He lives by it. It is always on his mind. It is always in his heart. It is always on his lips.

The Fruitful Tree (Verse 3):

The blessed man is like a tree. A tree planted by the rivers of water. He is not a wandering plant. He is planted. He is rooted. He is established. He is secure. He is nourished. He is sustained. He is fruitful. He brings forth fruit in his season. He does not produce fruit all the time. He produces fruit at the right time. He is patient. He is faithful. He is consistent. His leaf does not wither. He is always green. He is always alive. He is always flourishing. And whatever he does prospers. Not just some things. Whatever he does. His work prospers. His family prospers. His life prospers. His relationships prosper. His ministry prospers. His labour prospers. He is blessed.

The Ungodly Are Not So (Verses 4-5):

The ungodly are the opposite. They are like chaff. Chaff is light. Chaff is worthless. Chaff is empty. Chaff is driven away by the wind. It has no root. It has no substance. It has no stability. It has no fruit. It is easily blown away. It is carried off. It is scattered. It is destroyed. The ungodly cannot stand in the judgment. They cannot withstand God’s scrutiny. They cannot endure His judgment. They will not stand in the congregation of the righteous. They will be excluded. They will be separated. They will be rejected. They will be condemned.

The Lord Knows the Way of the Righteous (Verse 6):

The Lord knows the way of the righteous. He knows their path. He knows their walk. He knows their struggles. He knows their victories. He knows their pain. He knows their joy. He knows their needs. He knows their hearts. He approves. He blesses. He protects. He leads. He guides. He preserves. The way of the ungodly shall perish. Their path leads to destruction. Their end is judgment. Their destiny is death. The contrast is clear. The choice is clear. The outcome is clear.

Question for the Day — Monday, 14th September 2026:

Are you walking in the counsel of the ungodly? Are you standing in the way of sinners? Are you sitting in the seat of the scornful? Or is your delight in the law of the Lord? Are you meditating on it day and night? And are you like a tree planted by the rivers of water?
