BASIC SCRIPTURE: JOB 2:1-10

BASIC SCRIPTURE: SUNDAY, 20TH SEPTEMBER 2026 — JOB 2:1-10 (KJV)

1. Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.

2. And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

3. And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.

4. And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.

5. But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.

6. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.

7. So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

8. And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.

9. Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.

10. But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

PRAYER POINTS — SUNDAY, 20TH SEPTEMBER 2026

1. Father, let me be like Job — a perfect and upright man, one who fears God and eschews evil.

2. Lord, let me hold fast my integrity, even when I am tested and tried.

3. Father, when I lose everything, let me not curse You. Let me still bless Your name.

4. Lord, when my body is afflicted, let me not sin with my lips. Let me speak words of faith.

5. Father, I receive good at Your hand. Help me to receive evil also, knowing that all things work for good.

6. Lord, let me not be like the foolish woman who speaks against You. Let me be wise in my words.

7. Father, let me be an example of faithfulness in the midst of suffering.

8. Lord, I thank You that in all these things, You are with me and You will not forsake me.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — SUNDAY, 20TH SEPTEMBER 2026

Key Verse: Job 2:10 — “But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.”

The Heavenly Council (Verses 1-2):

Again, the sons of God presented themselves before the Lord. Satan came among them. God asked Satan, “From whence comest thou?” Satan answered, “From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.” Satan is not omnipresent. He is not everywhere at once. He moves about. He walks to and fro. He is active. He is seeking. He is searching. He is looking for victims. He is looking for opportunities. He is looking for weak spots. He is looking for open doors.

God’s Testimony of Job (Verse 3):

God spoke of Job. He said, “Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?” God was proud of Job. God was testifying of Job. God was boasting about Job. Job was not perfect in the sense of sinless. He was perfect in the sense of wholehearted. He was complete in his devotion. He was upright in his conduct. He feared God. He eschewed evil. He turned away from evil. He hated evil. He rejected evil. He avoided evil. And God added, “And still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.” Job had passed the first test. He had lost his children. He had lost his property. He had lost his wealth. He had lost his servants. He had lost everything. But he had not sinned. He had not cursed God. He had held fast his integrity.

Satan’s Challenge (Verses 4-5):

Satan responded. He said, “Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.” Satan was saying that Job was self-preserving. He was saying that Job would give anything to save his own skin. He was saying that Job’s righteousness was only because he was protected. He was saying that if God touched his flesh, Job would curse Him. He challenged God to put forth His hand and touch Job’s bone and flesh. He was sure Job would crack. He was sure Job would break. He was sure Job would curse God.

The Permission (Verses 6-7):

God gave permission. He said, “Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.” God allowed Satan to attack Job. God restricted Satan. He could not kill Job. He could not take his life. He could touch his body. He could inflict pain. He could cause suffering. He could bring disease. But he could not take his life. Satan went out. He smote Job with sore boils. From the sole of his foot to his crown. It was total. It was severe. It was painful. It was devastating. It was humiliating. It was degrading.

Job’s Suffering (Verse 8):

Job was in agony. He took a potsherd — a piece of broken pottery. He scraped himself with it. He sat among the ashes. He was afflicted. He was in pain. He was in misery. He was in despair. He was in sorrow. He was in grief. He was alone. He was broken. He was suffering.

The Wife’s Counsel (Verse 9):

Job’s wife spoke to him. She said, “Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.” She was frustrated. She was angry. She was bitter. She was hurting. She had lost everything too. She had lost her children. She had lost her wealth. She had lost her status. She had lost her future. She was overwhelmed. She was in despair. She told Job to curse God. She told him to give up. She told him to die. She was not a helper. She was a tempter. She was not a comforter. She was a tormentor. She was not a source of strength. She was a source of temptation.

Job’s Response (Verse 10):

Job rebuked his wife. He said, “Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh.” He would not follow her advice. He would not give up. He would not curse God. He would not die. He asked a question. “What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?” He acknowledged God as the source of all things. Good and evil. Blessing and suffering. Joy and sorrow. Life and death. He accepted it all. He trusted God. He praised God. He honored God. And in all this, Job did not sin with his lips. He did not curse God. He did not speak against God. He did not accuse God. He did not blame God. He did not doubt God. He kept his integrity. He kept his faith. He kept his testimony.

Question for the Day — Sunday, 20th September 2026:

Are you holding fast your integrity? When suffering comes, do you curse God or trust Him? Are you able to receive good and evil from the hand of God? And are you not sinning with your lips?
