Verse 18 of our Basic Scripture says: “When I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare Your strength to this generation.” Wow! The Holy Ghost wants you to know that old age is a blessing and not a curse! Even if you are young or middle-aged now, live in anticipation of old age! Notice that in David’s prayer, he said: “When I am old and grayheaded.” “WHEN” I am old, not “IF” I am old! That means it must come! David expected and had faith for old age and he eventually became old like any human! All his enemies including king Saul couldn’t kill him! He died at a very old age! Ripe, old age shall be your portion in Jesus name! The twist is that even though old age is God’s will, not everyone will become old! Many People Die Young! Pray Against It! David’s prayer is instructive because many people see old age as a setback due to physical limitations! That’s why David cried out, “O Lord, do not forsake me until I declare Thy strength/power to this generation.” Yes, age breaks down our full strength and energy but it’s God’s way of getting us to slow down so we’ll have more time for Him! You may lose some things as you age! For instance, physical strength, sharpness, speed and agility. But think of the calm God gives to you, the peace He leaves you with, the benefits of His salvation, and His faithfulness! Someone has said: “Old age is the best time to grow in grace and godliness, in inner strength, wisdom and beauty of character.” Old age is a set-up; not a setback!
