On 20th May, 2001, at the graduation ceremony of Washington Community High School in Washington, Illinois, THE SNEEZE OF A BOY PROVOKED A “GOD BLESS YOU” response! Before that graduation ceremony, the family of one student, Natasha Appenheimer, took the school to court and asked for an order stopping the school from including prayers or the word ‘GOD’ in the final closing benediction given at the school’s graduation ceremony (this was an 80 year-old tradition of that school).

The suit was decided in favour of the Appenheimer family when, three days before the ceremony, the court handed down at emporary injunction barring the inclusion of the prayers on the basis of their having been deemed “school sponsored” (and thereby an unconstitutional violation of the First Amendment’s “establishment clause”). The Christian students and parents were astonished and began looking for every available legal means to counter that ruling!
So on the day of the ceremony, Ryan Brown,a member of the graduating class who was scheduled to give a speech during the event, had in his form of protest, worked out with a handful of friends how he would FAKE A SNEEZE at the podium and they were to cry out“God bless you.”The plan was carried out as envisioned, with everyone who had been in on it playing their assigned parts. THE GRADUATION CEREMONY ENDED WITH A‘GOD BLESS YOU’ BECAUSE A STUDENT SNEEZED! Oh Lord!

The Holy Ghost wants you to look for every available opportunity to SHARE THE GOSPEL DAILY! See again 2 Tim 4:2 – “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season…” That means when CONVENIENT or when NOT CONVENIENT! IN SEASON AND OUT OF SEASON! Court order or no court order! BREAKTHROUGH OR NO BREAKTHROUGH! Refuse to be intimidated by pleasure or fear! Refuse to be intimidated with your own battles or by enemies!
Look for creative ways to ANNOUNCE YOUR GOD and reach a soul every day before going to bed! You can use your phone’s text message to invite a soul to church, social media or even just your mouth! Always remember: “It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our walking is our preaching” (Francis of Assisi). SNEEZE! I want to shout: “God bless you”!
