Text: Habakkuk 2:1-4 (KJV)
1 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. 2 And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. 3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. 4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

Devotional Message The passage follows Habakkuk’s dialogue with God concerning the punishment of sinful Israel by an even more sinful nation. In chapter 2:1, the prophet waited on God for an answer. Instead of just speaking, God instructed him to write the vision and make it plain so that whoever reads it can run with it.
A striking illustration is given of a man who bought a fine barometer that pointed to “HURRICANE.” Disappointed, he shook it and wrote a complaint letter to the store. The next day, both the barometer and his house were gone — the hurricane had struck. The instrument was not wrong; the man simply failed to heed the plain warning.
As believers, we are like that barometer and like Habakkuk. We are not mere decorations in beautiful church buildings. We are God’s mouthpieces commissioned to clearly declare the message of salvation, deliverance, and warning of impending judgment. The gospel demands that we “go” and clearly spell out God’s entreaties and warnings so that people can run to safety in Christ.

Prayer Commentary & Prayer for DCLM Readers
Commentary: Today’s devotional challenges us not to be passive believers who keep God’s vision, warnings, and the gospel to ourselves. Habakkuk was told to make the vision plain so that even a runner could read and act on it. In the same way, our witness must be clear, urgent, and understandable. Many in our world today are like the man with the barometer — they ignore or misunderstand the signs of the times. The Lord is calling Deeper Life believers to rise as faithful watchmen: to pray, to write, to speak, and to live the message with such clarity that sinners can “run” into safety through Christ. Faithfulness here is not in grand gestures alone, but in making the truth plain and accessible.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the clarity of Your Word and for the vision You have given to Your Church. Help me, like Habakkuk, to stand upon my watch and wait patiently for Your instructions.
Lord, make me a clear voice in this generation. Remove every ambiguity from my life and testimony. Grant me the grace to write, speak, and live the gospel in such a plain and urgent manner that sinners may read it, understand it, and run to You for salvation.
Deliver me from the spirit of complacency and decoration Christianity. Let my life and the life of every DCLM member become a faithful warning and invitation to the perishing world. Help us to patiently wait for the fulfilment of Your promises, living daily by faith as the just.
Father, revive Your Church to be effective watchmen in these last days. Use us mightily to turn many from darkness to light before the appointed time of judgment. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
May the Lord help us all to make the vision plain in our generation.
