Bible Reading:
Leviticus 3:10-13 (KJV)
10 And the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, which is by the flanks, and the caul above the liver, with the kidneys, it shall he take away.
11 And the priest shall burn it upon the altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire unto the LORD.
12 And if his offering be a goat, then he shall offer it before the LORD.
13 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of it, and kill it before the tabernacle of the congregation: and the sons of Aaron shall sprinkle the blood thereof upon the altar round about.
MESSAGE
The Hebrew word for “peace” shalom, represents wholeness and right relationship with God, others, and creation. The peace offering, as a voluntary offering, signifies restored relationship with God. This type of offering is indicative of a voluntary expression of faith, thanksgiving, and gratitude.
Our passage today pertains to the detailed instructions given for the peace offerings. These offerings were important for maintaining a harmonious relationship between an individual and God. Specifically, the passage outlines which parts of the animal are to be removed and offered to the Lord. It also gives us the role of the priests in the exercise. The kidneys and the fat signify the best portions of the sacrifice, which were to be dedicated to God. This act of offering the choicest parts is a form of worship and reverence, recognising God’s supreme authority and generosity.
From that context, it is clear that such offerings were to be made accurately and respectfully. The focal point of burning these parts was to create a “sweet savour unto the LORD,” signifying that the offering was pleasing and acceptable to Him. The prescribed portions for the peace offerings highlight the significance of giving God the best, demonstrating the importance of sacrifice, and dedication in worship.
However while the Old Testament gives us the details of how to make acceptable blood sacrifices, Jesus Christ, in the New Testament, offered up Himself as the Lamb of God who took away our sins on the cross at Calvary. “For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us” (Ephesians 2:14). With Jesus as our peace, we need not kill any animal to make peace for our iniquities, but only embrace Him wholeheartedly. Praise the Lord.

COMMENTARY
1. The Meaning of Peace (Shalom) – The devotional explains that the Hebrew word “shalom” means more than the absence of conflict. It represents wholeness, completeness, and right relationship with God, others, and creation. The peace offering was a voluntary act of gratitude and worship, reflecting a heart at peace with God. This reminds us that true peace is rooted in relationship with God.
2. Giving God the Best – The peace offering required the choicest parts of the animal—the kidneys and fat—to be offered to God. This act of offering the best portions was a form of worship and reverence. It teaches us that God deserves our first and best, not our leftovers. Our worship, time, resources, and devotion should reflect His supreme worth.
3. A “Sweet Savour” to the Lord – The burning of the offering created a “sweet savour unto the LORD,” signifying that the offering was pleasing and acceptable. This points to the heart of worship: not merely ritual but a genuine expression of love and gratitude that delights the heart of God. Our worship today should similarly be a sweet aroma to Him.
4. Christ Our Peace Offering – The devotional makes a crucial transition from the Old Testament sacrificial system to the New Testament reality. Jesus Christ is the ultimate peace offering. He offered Himself once and for all, making peace between God and humanity through His blood (Colossians 1:20). We no longer need to sacrifice animals; we simply embrace Christ by faith.
5. The Danger of False Peace – The Thought for the Day powerfully states: “Any talk about peace that excludes the Prince of Peace is a piece of delusion.” This is a timely warning. The world offers many counterfeit forms of peace—through wealth, pleasure, relationships, or self-help—but only Jesus gives true peace. As He said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you” (John 14:27).
6. The DCLM Ministry’s Emphasis on the Cross – The Deeper Christian Life Ministry centers its message on the finished work of Christ at Calvary. Pastor Kumuyi consistently points believers to the cross as the source of peace, forgiveness, and reconciliation with God. The Daily Manna devotional reflects this gospel-centered focus, reminding readers that salvation and peace come only through Jesus.

Prayer Reflection
Lord Jesus, thank You for being my peace offering. You gave Yourself fully so that I could be reconciled to God. I receive Your peace today—peace with God, peace within my heart, and peace with others. Help me to offer my best to You in worship and to share the peace of Christ with those around me. In Your precious name. Amen.
