MESSAGE
Reverend K. E. Hagin (1917 – 2003), an American gospel minister, is known for pioneering the Word of Faith movement, following E. W. Kenyon’s footsteps. He recognises believers’ position and authority when he says, “As believers, we have been given the power of attorney to act on behalf of Jesus Christ.” Little wonder his classics and messages on faith have become so popular among believers globally. In his lifetime, he deployed that delegated power of faith to do exploits in the church. His legacy has continued to inspire many believers who draw insights and inspirations from his books and messages.
In our text, Jesus, our Lord and Redeemer, bequeaths His disciples with the authority and power to do what He would have done if He were still on the earth. The believer in Christ is a new creature and has been stripped of the sinful, weak, fearful, and powerless nature, which is replaced with the divine nature. He is not timid but bold because he has the spirit of love (that casts out fear), power, and a sound mind. He has been given the power of attorney.
This is the legal right given by a person to another to act on his behalf. It is an agent or attorney-in-fact’s legal authorisation to act on behalf of his principal.
Prayers in the name of Jesus guarantee undeniable answers because they imply that Christ is praying for us. The Father never denies the Son any request. Believers are heirs of God and are joint-heirs with Christ. We must always approach the throne of grace with absolute confidence. God hears us always as He did whenever Christ prayed. Besides, our Redeemer lives, ever making intercession for us. Aside using His name in prayers, He also gives us authority to do His work and greater things through His name. Now, every child of God should be involved passionately in the preaching of the gospel, healing the sick, curing the diseased, cleansing lepers, raising the dead, delivering the oppressed, and casting out devils in the name of Jesus.
Until you begin to use what you have, you may not fathom the incredible power and authority at your disposal as a child of God. You are not inferior to other believers. The fact is that they take God at His word and reach out in obedience, and, therefore, see results. If you also go out in faith and do what He says, you will see the glory of God.

COMMENTARY
1. The Meaning of Power of Attorney – The devotional uses the legal concept of “power of attorney” to illustrate the believer’s authority in Christ. Just as a legal representative acts on behalf of another, believers are authorized to act on Christ’s behalf. This is not presumption but a delegated authority given by Jesus Himself. He said, “He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do” (John 14:12). This authority is real and operational for every believer who walks in faith and obedience.
2. The Believer’s New Nature – The devotional emphasizes that believers have been transformed into new creatures. The old sinful, fearful, and powerless nature has been replaced with divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). This means we are no longer bound by timidity or weakness. As Paul wrote, “God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). This new nature empowers us to act boldly in Christ’s name.
3. Prayer in Jesus’ Name – Praying in the name of Jesus is not a formula but an authorization. It means we come before the Father on the basis of Christ’s finished work and His ongoing intercession. When we pray in His name, it is as if Christ Himself is praying. The Father never denies the Son, and thus He hears our prayers. This should give believers absolute confidence to approach the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16).
4. The Works of Believers – The devotional lists the works believers are authorized to do: preaching the gospel, healing the sick, curing diseases, cleansing lepers, raising the dead, delivering the oppressed, and casting out devils. These are not reserved for apostles or special ministers; they are the inheritance of every child of God. The early church demonstrated these works, and the church today is called to the same.
5. Using What You Have – The devotional challenges believers to use the authority they have been given. Many fail to see results because they never step out in faith. The key to experiencing the power of God is obedience—taking God at His word and acting on it. As the devotional states, “If you also go out in faith and do what He says, you will see the glory of God.”

Lord Jesus, thank You for giving me the power of attorney to act on Your behalf. Help me to use this authority boldly—to pray with confidence, to preach the gospel, and to minister in Your name. Forgive me for the times I have been timid or inactive. Empower me by Your Spirit to do the works You did and even greater works. May Your name be glorified through my life. Amen.
