Welcome to another hour of divine Signature! It was E.D. Maurice, who wrote a letter to his mother, “Of all the spirits, I cannot tell you how dreadfully and how long… This, I find has more hindered my progress in love and gentleness than all things else. I never knew what the words, ‘Judge not that ye be not judged,’ meant before, now they seem to me some of the most awful, necessary, and beautiful in the whole Word of God.” Self-judgment is a great duty, judging others a grievous sin, yet is not all judgment of others condemned? Especially when our neighbour’s state or person is judged rashly and rigidly, censoriously and uncharitably, unrighteous and unjustly. And the reason for the prohibition is added: if we judge others rashly, God will judge us rashly. Unless you have never been tempted, don’t pass judgment on someone who has yielded! Francis Frangipane wrote, “More churches have been destroyed by the accuser of the brethren and its fault finding than by either immorality or misuse of church funds. So prevalent is this influence in our society that, among many, fault finding has been elevated to the status of a “ministry.” Funny but true! There are so many “FAULT FINDING REVIVAL MINISTRIES” around! Oh, how horrible our sins look when they are committed by someone else! “Forgiveness is our command. Judgement is not” (Neil Strait).
