The Bible does not record the death of all the original 12 apostles! So much of what we know comes from JEWISH HISTORY and scholars! But I am led to share today’s devotional because “a generation which ignores history has no past and no future” (Marshall McLuhan). Judas Iscariot died by suicide shortly after betraying Jesus. Peter was crucified upside down in Rome around 66-68 AD, because he felt unworthy to die in the same manner as His Lord, Jesus. Andrew was killed in Patras, Greece and crucified on an X-shaped cross after preaching the gospel. James (son of Zebedee) was beheaded by Herod Agrippa 1 around 44 AD. James, leader of the church in Jerusalem, faced death by being thrown from the Temple’s pinnacle! Philip was executed or crucified at Hierapolis, in Asia Minor. Bartholomew was skinned alive and then burnt in Armenia! What a torture! Thomas was speared to death in India or Persia for proclaiming Jesus as God. Matthew was killed by a sword in Ethiopia after condemning the actions of the king. James (son of Alphaeus) was stoned to death with a club after being thrown from the Temple in Jerusalem. Jude (Thaddaeus) was killed by arrows or an axe in Persia or Armenia for his faith. Simon the Zealot was believed to have been sawn into two for his faith in Persia! Wow! Many are the afflictions of the righteous…” (Psalm 34: 19). Note that in Acts 21:13, Paul said, “I am ready not only to be imprisoned but even to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” Did you get that? Sometimes even death or any other challenge is a mystery your brain CANNOT catch! Determine never to quit even when you cannot explain some battles you face! BE COURAGEOUS! So in this year 2026, like the apostles of old, determine to hold on to the end, NO MATTER THE MATTER…(To be continued tomorrow).
