Topic: DEALING WITH MOUNTAINS

Memorise:

Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.
— Zechariah 4:7 (KJV)

Read: Job 9:1-6 (KJV)

1 Then Job answered and said,
2 I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?
3 If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.
4 He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?
5 Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.
6 Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.

RCCG Open Heavens 9 October 2026 Today Message by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

Several years ago, a highly-placed woman in society walked into my office one morning and claimed that God had told her I was her husband. I responded in shock, “How can God tell you that I’m your husband when I’m happily married and you are also married?” She kept insisting that I was her husband, and when I realised she would not leave me alone, I involved the police, and she was instructed to stop coming to Redemption City.

However, she wasn’t deterred. At one point, she threatened my wife that if she didn’t allow her to marry me, she would kill her. One time, I travelled to London to prepare our Sunday School manual, and I didn’t tell anyone about my trip because I wanted to work quietly. Surprisingly, as soon as I got to the house I was to stay at, the phone rang. When I picked up the phone, that same woman was on the line. She said, “Welcome. I have been waiting for you. I am at the next bus stop, and I will be with you in a few minutes.”

At that point, I threatened her that I would call the police, and they would be waiting for her if she came. After dropping the phone, I turned to God and said, “Father, You have to help me.” He replied, “As long as you allow the mountain to stay, it will.” At that point, I realised that I had been tolerating the devil like Paul did until he got tired and commanded an evil spirit to leave a girl in Acts 16:16-18. So, I said a simple prayer to God about the matter, and He saw to it that she never bothered me again. I pray that the Almighty God will deal with those who will not let you rest, in Jesus’ name.

Beloved, God can deal with any mountains in your path in different ways. He can give you the strength to climb and walk over them, or turn them into plains like He did for Zerubbabel in today’s memory verse. Regardless of the method He decides to use, you must understand that as long as you are comfortable with a mountain in your life, it will stay put. However, the moment you rise in prayer to confront it, God will show up and reveal how to address the mountain to you. May God give you the grace to overcome any mountain in your path, in Jesus’ name.

Prayer Point:
Dear Lord, please arise and deal with any mountain in my life, in Jesus’ name.

Bible in One Year:
Matthew 21-22

Hymn: What a Friend We Have in Jesus

Verse 1:
What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer.

Verse 2:
Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Verse 3:
Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee;
Thou wilt find a solace there.

Open Heaven Devotional 9 October 2026 Commentary

Theme: The Burden Bearer teaches that mountains don’t move until you confront them. As long as you tolerate a problem, it stays. The moment you rise in prayer, God moves.

Major Keywords: Dealing with mountains, confronting problems, prayer that moves mountains, stop tolerating, faith to speak to mountains.

Commentary Summary:

  • The Woman Who Wouldn’t Leave: Daddy shares how a woman harassed him for years, claiming God said he was her husband. He involved the police, but she persisted. Finally, God said, “As long as you allow the mountain to stay, it will.” He prayed, and she never bothered him again.

  • Stop Tolerating What God Wants You to Confront: Like Paul in Acts 16:16-18, who tolerated an evil spirit until he got tired and commanded it to leave, we often tolerate problems we should confront. As long as you’re comfortable with a mountain, it stays.

  • God Deals with Mountains Differently: He can give you strength to climb over them, or turn them into plains (Zechariah 4:7). Either way, the principle is the same: confront it in prayer.

  • Key Truth: Speak to your mountain, not about it (Mark 11:23). Faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains (Matthew 17:20). Stop settling. Rise up and pray.

Reference to Theme: This message, DEALING WITH MOUNTAINS, builds on the previous day by showing that mountains are not for tolerating—they are for confronting. God is waiting for you to rise in prayer. When you do, He will move.

Action Steps:

  1. Identify the Mountain You’ve Been Tolerating: What problem have you learned to live with? Write it down. Name it.

  2. Confront It in Prayer: Don’t just complain about it. Pray about it with authority. Speak to that mountain in Jesus’ name.

  3. Refuse to Settle: Make a decision today: you will no longer be comfortable with that mountain. Keep praying until something changes.
