RCCG Open Heaven 8 October 2026 Daily Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye – BEFORE THE MOUNTAINS
Topic: BEFORE THE MOUNTAINS

Memorise:
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
— Psalm 90:2 (KJV)
Read: Daniel 3:14-30 (KJV)
14 Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?
15 Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?
16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.
17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
19 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.
20 And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.
21 Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
22 Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire.
27 And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.
28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.
29 Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.
30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in the province of Babylon.
RCCG Open Heavens 8 October 2026 Today Message by Pastor E.A. Adeboye
There is no limit to God’s power. Mark 11:22-24 says that if you have faith, you can speak to a mountain, and it will move. Today’s memory verse also tells us that before the mountains were brought forth, God was. Our God is eternal, and there is no searching of His understanding. If you have faith in the One who was there even before mountains were formed, He can uproot any challenge that poses as a mountain in your life.
There are, however, times when you speak to a mountain in your life, and it doesn’t seem to move. This is because God knows that you can climb that mountain and emerge victorious. God will not place a mountain which you cannot climb before you. When you read the book of Job, you will see that long before Job’s problems came, God already knew that he would overcome them.
Beloved, God will not make you go through a challenge you cannot overcome. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says: “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” If God allows a mountain to stand in your path, it is because you are about to experience a greater level of glory. For example, it is expected that students will typically be assessed before they are promoted to a higher level or class.
In today’s Bible reading, the three Hebrew boys passed their test by refusing to bow down to the golden image, even at the risk of being burned to death, and God promoted them. Job 42:12-16 also tells us how God promoted Job after his ordeal. I am sure that the devil would have wished he had left Job alone, as the latter part of his life was more glorious than his beginning.
Child of God, if God allows you to face a mountain, it is because He wants to move you to the next phase of your life after you overcome that mountain. No matter the size or height of the mountain standing before you today, ask God to help you to surmount it, and you will emerge victorious in the end. I decree that you shall overcome all mountains standing before you today, in Jesus’ name.
Prayer Point:
Father, please help me to overcome every mountain standing before me, and grant me the grace to emerge victorious, in Jesus’ name.
Bible in One Year:
Matthew 18-20
Hymn: Conquerors and Overcomers Now Are We
Verse 1:
Conquerors and overcomers now are we,
Thro’ the precious blood of Christ we’ve victory;
If the Lord be for us, we can never fail,
Nothing ‘gainst His mighty pow’r can e’er prevail.
Chorus:
Conquerors are we, thro’ the blood of Jesus,
God will give us victory, thro’ the blood of Jesus,
Thro’ the Lamb who once was slain,
We shall overcome the foe;
Conquerors are we, and more than conquerors now.
Verse 2:
In the name of Israel’s God we’ll onward press,
Overcoming sin and all unrighteousness;
Not to us, but unto Him the praise shall be,
For salvation and for blood-bought victory.
(Chorus)
Verse 3:
Unto Him that overcometh shall be given
Here to eat of hidden manna sent from heav’n;
And o’er all the hosts of sin, o’er death and hell,
He that overcometh all things, shall prevail.
(Chorus)
Verse 4:
We are more than conquerors thro’ Him who loved us so,
The Christ who died and rose again for sin below;
We are more than conquerors, yes, o’er the pow’r of sin,
For the Captain of our salvation leads the way.
(Chorus)
Open Heaven Devotional 8 October 2026 Commentary
Theme: The Burden Bearer is before the mountains. He existed before they were formed, and He gives you victory over every mountain you face. Some mountains move; others you climb—but you always overcome.
Major Keywords: Before the mountains, overcoming mountains, faith to move mountains, Shadrach Meshach Abednego, trials before promotion.
Commentary Summary:
God Precedes Every Mountain: Psalm 90:2 declares God existed before the mountains were formed. If He is before your mountain, He has authority over it. Faith can speak to mountains and see them move (Mark 11:22-24).
Some Mountains Are for Climbing: When a mountain doesn’t move, God is not ignoring you—He is strengthening you. 1 Corinthians 10:13 promises He will never allow you to face more than you can bear. If He permits the mountain, you can climb it.
The Three Hebrew Boys: They refused to bow to the golden image, even facing the fiery furnace. God walked with them in the fire, delivered them, and promoted them. Their mountain became their testimony.
Job’s Restoration: Job lost everything, but God restored him with double. The latter part of his life was more glorious than his beginning. The devil regretted ever touching him.
Key Truth: If God allows a mountain, it is because He is moving you to the next phase of your life. Mountains are not barriers—they are stepping stones to greater glory. You will overcome.
Reference to Theme: This message, BEFORE THE MOUNTAINS, assures you that God is greater than every challenge you face. Whether He removes the mountain or gives you strength to climb it, you will emerge victorious. Your mountain is not your end—it is your promotion.
Action Steps:
Identify Your Mountain: Name the specific challenge standing before you—a health issue, a financial burden, a family conflict, a career obstacle. Bring it before God.
Speak to It with Faith: Mark 11:23 says you can command mountains to move. Speak to your mountain in prayer. Declare God’s promises over it.
Prepare to Climb: If the mountain remains, ask God for strength, wisdom, and endurance to climb it. Trust that on the other side is a greater level of glory.
