BASIC SCRIPTURE: GENESIS 12: 1- 9

BASIC SCRIPTURE: GENESIS 12:1-9 (KJV)

1. Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

2. And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

3. And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

4. So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

5. And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

6. And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.

7. And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.

8. And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.

9. And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, speak to me as You spoke to Abram. Let me hear Your voice clearly and obey without hesitation.

2. Lord, give me the courage to leave my comfort zone — my country, my kindred, and my father’s house — to follow You wherever You lead.

3. Father, I receive Your promise to bless me and make me a blessing. Let my life be a channel of blessing to others.

4. Lord, I declare that You will bless those who bless me and curse those who curse me. I am protected by Your covenant.

5. Father, let me be a blessing to all families of the earth. Let my life impact nations and generations.

6. Lord, when I arrive at the place of Your promise, let me build an altar and call upon Your name.

7. Father, let me journey on still toward the south — let me keep moving forward in faith, not settling for less than Your best.

8. Lord, let me be like Abram — obedient, faithful, and willing to follow You even when I do not know the destination.

Key Verse: Genesis 12:1 — “Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee.”

The Call (Verse 1):

God spoke to Abram. He gave him a command. “Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee.” It was a call to leave. Leave your country. Leave your family. Leave your father’s house. Leave your past. Leave your security. Leave your comfort. Leave your identity. Leave everything you know. Go to a place I will show you. It was a call to separation. It was a call to faith. It was a call to obedience. Abram did not know the destination. He only knew the Commander.

The Promises (Verses 2-3):

God gave Abram seven promises. He would make him a great nation. He would bless him. He would make his name great. He would make him a blessing. He would bless those who bless him. He would curse those who curse him. And in him, all families of the earth would be blessed. These were not small promises. They were massive. They were eternal. They were universal. They were unconditional. They were based on God’s faithfulness, not Abram’s performance.

The Departure (Verse 4):

So Abram departed. He left Haran. He left everything. He took Sarai his wife. He took Lot his nephew. He took all their substance. He took the souls they had gotten in Haran. He was seventy-five years old. He was not young. He was not impulsive. He was not reckless. He was obedient. He left everything behind. He went into the unknown. He trusted God.

The Journey (Verses 5-6):

Abram went forth to go into the land of Canaan. He came to Canaan. He passed through the land. He came to Sichem, to the plain of Moreh. The Canaanite was in the land. The land was occupied. The land was inhabited. The land was not empty. The enemies were there. The obstacles were there. The challenges were there. But Abram did not turn back. He kept going.

The Altar (Verse 7):

The Lord appeared to Abram. He made a promise. “Unto thy seed will I give this land.” Abram’s response was to build an altar. He worshipped. He consecrated. He dedicated. He acknowledged God. He built an altar unto the Lord who appeared to him. He made a place of worship. He made a place of sacrifice. He made a place of communion. He made a place of remembrance.

The Call Upon the Name of the Lord (Verse 8):

Abram moved to a mountain on the east of Bethel. He pitched his tent. He had Bethel on the west and Hai on the east. And he built an altar. He called upon the name of the Lord. He prayed. He worshipped. He invoked the name of God. He lived in fellowship with God. He did not just build an altar. He called upon the name of the Lord. He had a relationship. He had intimacy. He had communion.

Journeying Still (Verse 9):

Abram journeyed. He went on still toward the south. He did not stop. He did not settle. He did not become complacent. He kept moving. He kept following. He kept trusting. His life was a journey. His life was a pilgrimage. His life was a faith adventure. He was always going forward. He was always moving toward the promise.

Question for the Day:

Have you heard the call of God? Are you willing to leave your comfort zone? Are you trusting God for His promises? Are you building altars and calling upon His name? And are you journeying on still toward the south?
